Dream Island was a place inhabited only by anthropomorphic animals. The island used to be ruled by a king and queen, both of whom were penguins. Unfortunately, the rulers had disappeared years ago, and their top knight had taken their place.
Unknown to the people of the Castle Town, the king and queen had a son. No one knew of his existence, except for his parents and his current guardian.
The penguin ruler's son was named Dewberry. He was relatively tall, as penguins go. His usual choice of clothing was a purple coat and a strip of yellow cloth tied around his head. All that Dewberry remembered about his childhood was his parents leaving on a trip and leaving him in the forest with a tree spirit to watch him. That was so long ago, however, that Dewberry didn't even remember what his parents really looked like other than some blurred memories of their faces. The only people he really knew were Fera the tree spirit and Aco, a monkey who also lived in the forest.
It was another bright summer day on the island, and the forest was bright with flowers and leafy trees. Fera was rooted to the same spot as always, feeling the light breeze ruffle through her leaves. Today, she knew, was the day she would have to tell Dewberry. The news had come a while ago, but Fera had kept it to herself. However, she knew that Dewberry had to be told, or things could only get worse.
Fera called Dewberry to her. "Dewberry, have you liked living here in the forest with me?" she asked.
Dewberry nodded. "Of course! I love it here. Why wouldn't I?"
Fera smiled a little. "That is good. There is something I must tell you. Do you remember how I told you that your parents had gone missing?"
"Yes, I remember." Dewberry answered.
"Well, they were the king and queen of Dream Island. That means you are the prince and therefore the rightful ruler of the kingdom. When your parents entrusted you to me, they told me not to tell you, because they wanted to tell you themselves. But since they are gone, I have to tell you now." Fera continued.
Dewberry's eyes widened, and his beak dropped open. "Wait, what? I'm the prince of the whole island?" he asked in disbelief.
Fera nodded as well as she could, being a tree. "I only tell you this now because some news has come to me. When your parents left, they let their top knight take care of the kingdom, and he has been doing so for many years. Unfortunately, he has recently been defeated, and the kingdom has been taken over by an evil rat. Dewberry, as the rightful ruler of the island, you must go and reclaim the throne."
Dewberry sat down to process. He looked as though he had been struck by lightning. "Are you serious? I can't believe this! I'm the prince? Not sure whether to think that's crazy or awesome. And now I have to go defeat the rat to get back the kingdom?"
"Yes." Fera said. "I wish I didn't have to tell you so quickly like this, and let you go, but it must be destiny for you to do this. You should leave right away."
Dewberry looked up at the tree spirit. "I- okay. I'll do it."
