The year is 2157. Ever since 2007, people have been reported missing all over the globe in strange places. From train tunnels to literal "Ink Rifts" that reside in shadowy dwellings.
Earth's "Global Alliance" have been researching this phenomena for a century and a half, not able to get far regardless of technological advances. They only barricade around the rifts to keep the public from interacting with them. While they research in secret the source of this anomaly.
Hughes Akala, a veteran of the Third World War. Now resides in the State of Oregon. He works as a freelance artist, advertiser, and animator for a corporation called "Icarus Industries".
He is also a repair specialist for those with mechanical augmentations.
After losing his job with Icarus Industries, he encounters one of these "Ink Rifts" on the train ride home. This moment changed his life forever when he is thrown into an incredible cartoon world known as the "Painted Expanse".
Follow along with Hughes as he discovers more mysteries from Earth, and this new world...
