Prologue
PRESENT
I quickly sprint down the dark alley, my heart racing and my hand bloody red. I had killed Emily Anderson, Anderson's only daughter. And now the cops are chasing me like wild dogs in packs chasing a squirrel up a tree.
“Please, I’m sorry, forgive me!” were her exact words as I used my knife to stab her to death, blood whooshing out of her as the sound of police sirens got closer and closer by the minute. I ran remembering the soothing feelings of her warm blood on fingertips and her screams and cries like melodys to my ears. I run and jump, climbing the ladder next to a building to reach the rooftop.
I pant and smile, having a bit of relief thinking, “I had lost them..." I turn to see cops surrounding me, some with guns, flashlights, and even some holding on the leash of police dogs barking and growling while saliva drips from their mouths. My smile fades.
I close my eyes. Trying to catch my breath. Everything, every sound around me slowly dulls like time stopped. As I go back into my memory, seeing what happened, how I got in this situation….why I did it. I open my eyes and every sound comes back.
“Ah, now I remember.” I say under my breath. I look around and see that there's only one way out, my eyes viewing the other building. What if I don’t make it? I shake my head hoping the doubts running through my mind disappear, and I simply just… leap.
