The Great Separation destroyed everything. The people were divided in two. The less fortunate were sent to the west, while those wealthy and privileged stayed in the east. At the start of the Great Separation, the east provided for the west. It wasn’t ideal, but life could go on for both sides. However, as time went on, things changed. The east built a border between themselves and the west. The weekly deliveries of medicine and food the east initially provided dwindled down to nothing. The west became a dumping site for the east. Supplies were no longer brought to the west, and the people suffered. Schools shut down due to a lack of funding, people lost their jobs, and many were killed. The east became violent and killed anyone from the west that even got close to the border. Injustice was everywhere, and there was nothing the people of the west could do. When they tried to fight back, they were killed.

Kai had always hated the east. He thought it was unfair that his people were punished and killed for simply trying to survive. He had to take care of himself and his brother since he was a child, due to being abandoned by their parents. Kai had zero intention of even approaching the east until it seemed as if he had no other choice. Kai’s brother, Asa, had been suffering from a mysterious illness ever since he was young. The poor conditions in the west only worsened Asa’s condition. If Asa didn’t get help, he was going to die.

Desperate for answers, Kai and Asa’s friend, Gio, concluded that Asa had been suffering from Sigma-B. The only thing that could potentially cure the rare condition was called Chi. Although Kai scoured the west, his attempts were fruitless in finding Chi. There was only one place he could go, and that was the east.
