Ch 0: "Healer"

Ch 0: "Healer"

May 26, 2023

The typical mortal has approximately five litres of blood in their body, and by losing forty percent of said blood, an individual will die. This is a fact.

And, through his misfortune, it is a fact that he will never experience as he gazes into the open wound on his forearm; as the golden blood flows freely onto the counter, he could see them glow and glimmer underneath the flickering candlelight. Euth sighs for the millionth time that day, feeling the way his skin would weave itself together to mend his injury. It was a brisk process, devoid of any pain or effort yet it was a mystery that he himself could not solve.

What is he?

He had asked himself that question throughout his life, looking over at the ancient histories that were written in the kingdom’s textbooks yet try as he might, there were no records of anyone like him — it was as if their existence were wiped out, leaving only him behind as a symbol of a probable history.

Or he was an abomination, a useless piece that the Numens threw away when they had inhabited this land. It is possible, and each passing day, Euth is convinced that the latter is the most probable scenario. Yet he couldn’t do much about it, he had lived with his golden blood for as long as he could remember — yet, a few times in his life, he had wondered what others would think of him if he didn't hide his... oddness?

He shrugged his thoughts away, looking at his now healed forearm, as if the wound was never there in the first place, a flawless mending process. Euth had millions of questions flowing through his head, yet no one to ask them to- not even the prince.

But a knock at his door snapped him out of his train of thoughts, as a familiar voice called out to him accompanied with five additional knocks when he didn't answer.

“Your highness, Prince Sirius.” Euth called out, wiping away the rest of his golden blood with a handkerchief, turning towards the person on the other side of the door. “You do not need to knock if you wish to visit me.” He said, shoving the handkerchief into his coat pocket.

“Well? I respect your privacy, Euth.” Sirius opens the healer’s doors, leaning against the door frame with a curious look on his face. “I’m not the type of person who would lose basic courtesy, even with my friends, just because I was crowned as the Prince of Eryon.”

“Is that so?” Euth chuckles slightly, looking over at the velvet sofa beside his desk before turning back to Sirius, the white streaks of hair contrasted with the man’s black hair and tan skin- along with the eyepatch that lies on his right eye; it made the prince unique in his own ways.

“Well, come sit, I assume you’re finally free from all the kingdom’s paperworks currently?” Euth smiles, to which the prince responded with a nod as he entered the healer’s office.

“I do not know how you could manage all of those reports.” Euth jokes, pulling out a bittersweet candy out of his pocket, tossing it on to the prince’s direction. “If I was in your position, I would’ve resigned immediately.”

“Someone has to take on the duty of the future king.” Sirius sighs, opening the candy before putting it into his mouth. “If it’s not me, then who else?”

Euth hums in agreement, pulling out another bitter candy for himself.

“Your fathers are blessed by the Numen of Divinity, no?” Euth questions, leaning back in his chair. “And you were chosen by the Numen of Wandering Spirit. I am confident in this nation’s prosperity, as I’m under your service — my loyalty will always lie with you, your highness.” Euth gives Sirius a small smile, which made the prince’s face red.

“Well — you’re not wrong, but that’s not what I want to talk about currently.” He coughed into his palm, his expression turned into a more serious one as he closed his eyes. “Anyway, Euth, I have been thinking about a current project recently, and it’ll involve you.”

“Oh?” Euth raises an eyebrow. “Is that so?”

Sirius nods, handing over a stack of paper to Euth.

“I have received reports from Thyleth about the overgrowing corruption on their end, and while we have it under control in the Overworld, it’s a unique situation down there.” Sirius explains, examining the way Euth’s face would contort in annoyance when he brought up the nation of Thyleth.

“I refuse.” Euth interrupts, looking over at the report given to him.

“I knew you would say that.” Sirius sighs, taking away the stack of paper from Euth’s hand. “I’m aware of your animosity towards Thyletians, but we have signed a truce — and my fathers have promised to help their nation under the oath.”

“Apologies for my words, your highness," Euth turns his gaze towards Sirius, his lips are turned down to a small frown, "but what does that have to do with me?” He asked.

“Well… I just wish for your involvement in this.” Sirius explains, showing Euth a small smile, trying to convince the healer to change his mind. “You’re one of Eryon’s best, if not the best, healer. Yet you cage yourself in your office every day… Even after I gave you the title of ‘battle healer’, you rarely go outside.”

“...” Euth was left speechless at Sirius’s reasoning.

“See this project as your vacation, I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Sirius grins at Euth, laughing slightly when the healer glares at him. “Put your trust in me, Euth. I have great faith in you.”

“You’re the worst person I’ve ever met, your highness.” Euth clicked his tongue, he could feel the way his eye would twitch in annoyance, yet a sense of obligation nags him at the back of his head.

He was in no place to refuse the prince's orders, that he is aware of. And within the kindgom of Eryon, loyalty is valued more than all the world's gold.

Euth, a Battle Healer (is that even real?) for the Kingdom of Eryon is forced to pair up with Kaslien, the General Warrior from the nation of Thyleth.

The mission was simple: Solve Thyleth's excessive corruption and save the day.

Of course, it's easier said than done as both of them have clashing personalities, often picking fights with one another. But when push comes to shove, they'll have to compromise and find a way to tolerate each other for the mission to be a complete success.

Through furies of gods, and the turbulent torment of trials, will they still stay as one?Read more
