Maira:
I opened my eyes to find myself in a field. The sky was a brilliant blue and the tall grass swayed in the wind. My skin felt warm underneath the sunlight. Songbirds chirped in the distance. I felt myself smiling. How peaceful. I thought to myself. Suddenly the songbirds stopped chirping. The soft wind ended abruptly. Everything around me stilled. I felt an eerie aura. A surge of panic rose through me. What happened? Why did it stop? I found myself looking around, trying to find an answer, but coming up empty-handed. Then in the distance, I spotted a tall figure wearing a black cloak. I started shouting but nothing came out. Frantically I tried to wave over to the figure. They turned away and started walking away into the distance. Wait no! Come back! I tried to shout but still, nothing came out. Then I started towards the figure. My legs started to quicken, the figure was getting closer. My legs slowed down when I neared them. Panting I tried to speak again. Nothing came out. The figure kept walking away. Shit. I need to grab their attention. I grabbed their shoulder and turned them around. The hood fell right off their head. It was a boy. He had broad shoulders, a sharp jaw, full round lips, sharp eyes that were the shade of milk chocolate, high cheekbones, slightly tanned skin, and a small cut in his right eyebrow. His dark chocolate hair was messy and went slightly passed his eyebrows, giving the overall feel of a bad boy. He looks my age! He looked slightly surprised. Please God, may my voice work this time? I tried to speak for the third time but nothing came out. I touched my throat haphazardly as the boy started chuckling at my failed attempt of speaking. Wow, he has a great voice... God this is not the time for ogling! Infuriated I tried speaking again with no progress. Finally, the boy came close to my ear and whispered “Soon.” Soon? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Desperate I tried to speak again but when I looked up, he was gone. Wait he was just here a second ago! Frantic I look around my surroundings but I couldn’t see him. Then everything turned black.
I woke up confused, and a bit concerned. It felt like he was trying to tell me something.. Yeah. Definitely weird. I stood up, lazily scanning my room. It wasn’t large but it was definitely enough for me. I had a queen sized bed my parents gave me when they bought a new bed, a small closet to my left, a small desk with a few knick-knacks placed randomly and two doors, one leading to my own bathroom and one leading to the hall. I took a deep breath and finally got out of bed. It’s either now or never. I slid on my slippers and headed to the bathroom, where I then took a short shower. I brushed my teeth while picking out a hoodie and sweatpants then got dressed. I put my wet hair up in a ponytail and headed downstairs. My parents had already left for work. Ooh, they left a note this time. “Hey Maira, sorry we couldn't be here but there’s breakfast in the fridge. -Love mom and dad” Great I get the house to myself. I personally enjoyed having the house alone to myself. Felt nice. I opened the fridge to find pre-cooked waffles. I opened the Tupperware container and bent down to grab a plate. Then plopped two waffles onto the plate and threw it in the microwave. I turned on the T.V while I waited for my waffles to heat up. Time to watch news propaganda! I played the news channel, to catch up on what’s going on with the world this morning. If I wasn’t watching crime shows, I’m probably watching the news. Finally, the microwave stopped. Grabbing some honey I went walked over to the couch to watch the news while I ate my breakfast in silence. After I was done eating, I turned off the T.V, washed up my plate and headed upstairs. I plopped onto my bed to check my phone. Miraculously I forgot to check it today. I saw that I had like 20 missed calls from my friend Hana. Oh shit, something must have happened. I immediately called her back, and when she finally picked up, all I heard were squeals. “Hana, what happened? What’s going on? Is the earth finally ending?” I asked jokingly. “No even better!” she screamed. “Oh what could be better than finally getting out of this hellhole?” I asked, a smile playing at my lips. I rolled over on my back, looking at the ceiling. “General Lee’s son, Kaito is looking for his promised!” my face contorted into instead disgust. “Umm, and? What about it?” I replied in a mocking tone. “Hey! He’s every girl's dream!” she said sharply. “No, he isn’t. Money is every girl’s dream.” I said sitting up. “Well, he has money so ha. Anyways he connected to his promised last night. He explained it to a few news sources. I sent you the post.” I do not want to read that garbage. “And you’re gonna read it.” She said in a mocking tone. “Ugh, are you serious? I have to read about some fake promised shit that only lasts like a fucking day?” I asked. “Uh, it doesn’t last just a day! It’s forever. And it happens to everyone. Anyways I have to go eat but you still have to read it!” hanging up before I could I could complain anymore. What is she like twelve? I thought before looking at the article she sent me. I was not nearly ready for this. I quickly scrolled down, before finding his quote. “I was teleported to my promised dream. She was beautiful. She looked so peaceful. She knows who she is.” Ugh, this is NOT it sister. I mean that is just a fucking script. I thought before turning off my phone. I plopped my head into the pillows groaning at how stupid this all was.
A promised is like a soulmate type of deal. It is when two people who received one soul that was split into two halves. See, we live in harmony with spirits, after the 100-year war. The 100-year war was between spirits and humans. The humans thought negatively of spirits which in turn took positive light spirits and made them dark spirits. The war was very long and killed spirits and humans from both sides. After both parties made peace with each other, we’ve helped each other. There are still some people who dislike spirits, but it is what it is. There are many different types of spirits, for example, plant spirits help create beautiful gardens and in turn receive positive light energy from the human they’ve helped. Spirits who receive negative energy from humans, get turned into dark spirits and wreak chaos. There are schools to teach people how to deal with negative spirits and how to save them, or if they’re too far gone, how to kill them. The general opened a school like this in Thane City, the country's capital, which is also where I live.
I closing my eyes. I was about to fall asleep before hearing the doorbell ring. Can the universe just let me nap in peace? I got up, and slowly descended down the stairs trying to see who it form the windows placed on either side of the door. I saw a few bodies out there. Looks like government officials. I better not be in trouble cause that would really ruin my mood. Cautious, I opened the door slowly. “Uh, can I help you?” I asked eyeing down each person. Five people all high-class government officials. Then I saw him. The guy from my dream. This is really NOT it sister. I looked at the others. There was a girl, short dark afro, dark skin, and a piercing gaze, a taller guy with tanned skin, blonde messy hair and sparkling blue eyes, a red-haired girl with freckles and long curly hair with green eyes, and an older man with a higher ranking uniform that looked like dream guy’s father. “Hello are you Maira Noon?” asked the older guy snapping me out of my daze. “Uhh yeah,” I said keeping my face neutral. “Can we come inside Ms. Noon?” the older guy asked a smile spread on his face. “Nope,” I said slamming the door. I locked it and back upstairs. This is too freaky for me to handle right now. I thought, ignoring the ringing doorbell and tapping of the door. I fell on my bed and started to go back to sleep.
Kaito:
“Great she slammed the door on us,” said Leia gesturing her arms to the door. “What are we gonna do now? We can’t break the door down!” said Daniel annoyance in his voice. “She recognized me,” I said quietly looking at the door. They all turned to me, confusion painted on their faces. “Well then why did your promised just slam the door on us?” asked Leia. The short dark haired girl asked anger in her voice. “I told you ganging up on her was a bad idea,” said Everett, annoyed. The three of them started to bicker when I looked over at my father. He looked at the doormat and lifted up to find something underneath.
He grabbed the spare key underneath the mat and began fidgeting with the doorknob. The group became silent watching him. The door opened. “Ms. Noon?” he called entering the house. I followed and so did the rest. The house was much smaller than my house. Then I heard shuffling upstairs. It's Maira. I nodded to the group and slowly started climbing the stairs. “Maira?” I called. She didn’t seem too fond of me. “Maira?” I called looking around to see a closed door with stickers on it. Maira’s room. My heart began to race in my chest. “Maira?” I called her name as I slowly entered. The room was empty but I noticed a door that was closed. “Maira we’re not here to hurt you,” I said gently. Maira’s in there He thought before knocking on the door.
