Promises Should Be Kept

Prolog (Part One)

Prolog (Part One)

Jan 01, 2018

In 2001 the World Trade Center was attacked and destroyed by terrorists thus starting an open war with the U.S. and the terrorist organizations in the Middle East. A few months latter, a girl over come with emotions and wanting the war to end, sent a silent prayer heavenwards. In that prayer she promised with all her heart and soul that she would help and protect all the people in the world if she only knew how. A few days later, she noticed a marking on her leg she didn't have before. It was as large round dark patch about the size of her open hand, with ragged edges and a small, lighter--almost white--streak in the middle. The girl thought it a bit odd but otherwise ignored it.

In 2010, it was discovered an ancient civilization had predicted the world would end on December 21, 2012. December 21, for those of you who don't know, is the winter solstice for those of us who live here in the northern latitudes. Also known as the shortest day of the year followed by the longest night. When midnight came on that darkest of nights, portals opened up all over the world with the majority of them concentrated in Mexico and the Bermuda Triangle. They released millions of supernatural creatures of myth and legend into our unsuspecting world. The witness to their arrival was the girl who had been marked in response to her prayer.

As she dreamed that night, she hovered over a section of Mexican jungle and watched as multiple portals opened up and began spewing forth all sorts of fantasy like creatures. There where both good and bad creatures coming through the portals and as she watched the bad ones began to attack the good ones. After few moments of bloody battle, she realized the bad ones were winning and if they did win, her world would come to an end.

She was horrified by this but all she could do was watch. Frustrated by her inability to do anything, she screamed out in dream for anyone, anything, to stop the slaughter. In her despair she felt something stir and awake in response to her call. As she dreamt she watched as a dark, black mist rose from the forest below her and gather in the center of the battle to condense into a black dragon like beast. This new creature hovered for a bit to take in its surroundings and as it hovered, a sense of recognition spread through the rest.

With the recognition the beast came two reactions from the creatures; ones of barely contained fear from the wicked and relief from the good. The bad ones tried in vain to sneak way quietly but to no avail. Before they could get very far, the black beast noticed them and began to attack. It tore into their ranks, catching and eating them as it did and causing them to flee for their lives in all directions as the good ones cheered it on. The girl as cheered happy with the knowledge that the her world would not find its end to night. The portals themselves remained open until day break came to the forest and girl woke from her dream to find it wasn't dream after all.

The world was supposed to end in 2012. Only it didn't......

Magic and mythological beings have return but technology still works and the world as we know it still limps on. Evil forces want the world to end but one hungry black beast and one ornery young woman aren't about to let that happen.

Thumbnail may still be changed later.

Maybe.
