My name is Mason Ryder and my life is what you considered pretty normal. I had my 2 best friends, I had good grades, My sister was helpful, despite being so busy, and I was on the volleyball team. I was on my way home from school when it happened
It had been a long day and I had decided to take a short -cut. I walked right through an alleyway, despite the many times I had been told not to. The reason people avoided the alleyway was because of a rumor about vampires.
'psht, vampires. Yeah right' I thought.
As I walked I heard a rustling. I figured it was just the wind and continued.
“You shouldn’t have come here”
I jumped at the voice. “H-Hello…” I said weakly. In a split second I went from standing to being pushed down. Upon glancing up, I saw a man, maybe 19-20 year old, 6”3, and large, broad shoulders. He had black hair and the prettiest golden eyes I had ever seen. Where as I was a 17 year old boy with a lean girlish body-type. I had ash brown hair, hazel eyes, and was 5”6. I was 9 inches shorter that the man on top of me.
As I cowered in the dirt, the older man above me, I realized my breathing was becoming uncontrollable and the palms of my had were getting sweaty. ‘Oh, I’m having a panic attack’ I thought. “Shit” He mumbled. Getting off of me, he pulled me to his chest as told me to breath. I was confused. I totally thought this guy wanted to kill me.
Even as he tried to calm me down, my breathing was also calming, the realization that I was having a panic attack in a strangers’ arms only made things worse.
“Look at me” I heard him say. Slowly I did as I was told. He was making exaggerated breathing motions which I tried to follow. After about 10 minutes of this I was calm enough to stand up. We both did. I realized it was getting dark and my sister was expecting me home by 7:30. When looking at my phone I realized it was nearly 8:45.
“Shit” I said, tearing my eyes from the screen to look at the stranger who jumped me. I started to thank him.
“Thank Y-” Suddenly, he jumped at me again. I heated sensation started began at my neck and spread throughout my whole body. I began feeling drowsy and collapsed in the stranger’s arms.
When I jumped awake, I was in my own bed. I thought ‘Phew, just a dream,’ and began getting ready for school. “ I’m afraid not.” I heard someone say. Turning on my heel, I looked at the window sill. Sitting right there was a guy from the night before.
“W-Who...Who are you? I squeaked out.
“No need to be scared. My name is Blake.” The man said. If your wonder how you got here and how I knew what you were thinking...well, that’s because I bit you.
“You WHAT!?” I shouted.
“Calm down. Let me explain.” Blake said. “I’m a vampire. I took your blood for survival. Now that I’ve bitten you, you’ve become my partner. You see I’m 19 almost 20 years old and I’m trying to start a guild. That’s when a pureblood vampire turns humans into vampires and becomes their “Leader.”
I still wasn’t sure I understood. ‘Vampire? Bite? Partner? Guild? Leader?’ I was beginning to think this guy was just some crazy stalker. He sighed, seeming to understand I still don’t believe him.
He began speaking when “Mace! Get your arse down here!” My big sister, Peyton, Yelled. “Coming!” I yelled back. Peyton was 9 years older than me and worked as a nurse to support us both. She was inspired by our mother. My mother died of cancer when I was 10 and after that, my father just disappeared. It was for the better though, because after she died he started drinking and hitting us.
Peyton had dirty blonde hair, like dad, dark brown eyes,
“Wai-” Blake tried to tell me something else, but I was already downstairs. I quickly at the food my sister made for me. I was thankful for her everyday. I ran out the door just as the bus pulled up. I jumped on and sat down next to my friends, Ethan and Sage. I had known both boys since 1st grade.
When we got to school sage went to find his boyfriend, Elliot. Sage was lucky we both approved of Elliot, because you do not want to get on our bad side. I may have anxiety, but that doesn’t mean I won’t stand up for a friend.
I walked to class with Ethan while debating whether or not to tell him about Blake. I decided against it. The rest of the day went by smoothly and I almost forgot about the vampire in my room almost.
The second I walked into the room I was tackled to the ground. Blake was above me, a playful smirk on his face. I hated closed spaces or being pinned down. Those helpless moments were when my anxiety acted up the most. Blake seemed to immediately realize this, because he got off of me and mumbled a sorry.
I told him it was ok and sat down on my bed. He sat down in my desk chair. “If your really a vampire,I said, prove it.” He closed his eyes, which I just realized were no longer gold, but an emerald green. When he opened them they flashed gold again. When he opened his mouth, he flexed a pair of fangs.
It was the only thing I could say. I. Was. Speechless. As I slowly walked over to him, he smirked and said “Believe be now?” I nodded my head before asking him to open his mouth again. I wanted to make sure they weren’t fake. His fangs, I mean. I ran a finger along them and concluded they were real.
I took out my sketchbook and asked if I could draw him. He seemed more than willing. I wanted to sketch him so I’d have something to go off of when doing research.
It took almost four hours, but I finally finished the sketch. After the sketch was done, I did all my homework, took a shower, ate dinner, and basically collapsed into bed. All the while, Blake just sat there. Except for the shower. I was so going to get him back for that. This was only the beginning of my not so normal life. When I woke up the next morning, he was sitting on my windowsill. Of course.
