Prologue
It was just an average day for Shannon, or so she thought. When Shannon awoke from her slumber, she began to feel chilly, which was common for the Minnesota mornings in December. She began to get up and get ready for her day, looking at the clock on her bedside table, she began to freak out, “Shoot! school starts in 15 minutes!!” screamed Shannon. Although her typical day starts out with Breakfast with her mother, not today, she was running late. She raced down the stairs grabbed a piece of toast and went on her way to school. “I wonder where mom is” Shannon thought to herself. As Shannon thought this, a car flew by ignoring the yield, a yellow car coming down the road smashed into the car. Shannon’s eyes go wide as she looks at the car upside down on the pavement. Leaving the scene Shannon felt traumatized about what just happened. Glancing down at her watch she realizes that school has already started,” I’m late on the first day, moms going to kill me” Shannon whispered to herself. Once she got to class, she sat down. “first day of school! This is going to be so fun!” said a person across the room. Shannon looked over to see her best friend Kaylee. Kaylee spotted Shannon and began rushing over to her with a worried look on her face. “Are you okay?!, Why are you here?!” cried Kaylee. “What are you talking about? Why wouldn’t I be here? it’s the first day of school” Shannon responded hesitantly. As tears ran down Kaylee’s face, she rushed up to the front of the room to speak with the teacher. The next thing Shannon knew was Kaylee was walking her down to the Principal’s office. “knock knock”, “come in” said Principal Deedee, “Hi, sorry to bother you, I have Shannon Smith with me” whispered Kaylee. Mrs. Deedee began to tear up, “I’m so sorry Shannon, Kaylee can I speak with you outside for a moment”. “Shannon if you don’t mind will you sit down, I will be back in a few minutes, there is candy on my desk if you would like some while you wait”. The Principal and Kaylee walked out of the room, leaving Shannon worried and scared by herself. “Am I in trouble? School just started I don’t think I did anything wrong, did I?”
