The Barn

The Barn

Jan 12, 2021

One day a little boy was walking around his new house and that’s when he saw it. It was huge, bigger than anything he’d seen before. It was a barn, now this boy had lived in the city his entire life, which wasn’t very long being he was only 10. Growing up in the city, he could walk by himself to the corner store, which happen to be just down the block from where he lived. His mother would sit on the steps and watch him as he walked down the block. He never knew anything about his father. His mother’s parents didn’t really want anything to do with him, they were too old-school, and his mother had never been married. They moved into her parents farmhouse after they died in a car crash a month before. With the farm being so far from town the little boy could no longer walk down to the corner store, that was the only thing he didn’t like about living there. One week after moving in he noticed a light on in the barn, at first he thought it was his mother. When he looked in her room, she was asleep. He then went and looked out of the window again, this time he saw someone walking around. After a few weeks of this, he decided that he would go and look to see if he could figure out who or what it was in the barn. That night he saw the light and the shadow of whatever was in there. As he was walking toward the barn, he heard a strange noise. It was almost like giggling mixed with growling. All he could do was freeze. That was the moment he should have run, for in that split second, he was taken. His mother never even knew he was missing, for the shadows that had taken him had also wiped all trace of him, from pictures of him on vacation, to any memories that anyone had. The shadows had brought their prince home.

The prince part makes me wonder. Did one of the shadows look like human and had a child (the boy) with the mom? Or have they always taken someone from that one family's bloodline to be their prince? Or is it that they take from the house?
