Streaks of Fire

Prologue

Prologue

Jul 23, 2019

A cool winter’s night darkened the sky around a cliff. The wolf that sat upon it glanced down at the river far below. It reflected the glowing spots in the sky, those same spots that had brought the wolf here tonight.

“I suppose you’d like me to sleep?” she asked, turning her head to the sky. “I thank you for this visit, Lora, but must you call me on the coldest night of the moon?” she sighed, though clearly not very upset by the sudden request, “I guess it’s a good thing that I decided to sleep earlier tonight.”

She laid down on the cold rock and waited for sleep to take her.

She stood in a familiar land, that which was filled with stone and unleveled ground. She looked around before stepping forward towards her dear friend. “Lora.” She grinned, glad to not be in a regular visit and not a prophecy.

Lora reached to ruffled the fur on top of the wolf’s head. “Hello Flame,” she smiled sweetly, “I’ve come to give you a message.”

“Oh, and here I thought you just wanted to see me.”

Lora let out a small laugh, “You know that’s not how it works,” she straightened herself out, “You need to help someone- a cat. She’s in the human’s land, you’ll know her when you see her. She won’t live from your help alone.”

Flame locked eyes with her friend, the same eyes they each shared. She nodded when she understood who’s help she needed, opening her mouth to speak but being cut off before she had the chance to, “Go.” she heard as she opened her eyes to see that she had returned to the cliff that hung above the ravine.

She stood without a second thought. She let out a howl before bolting off. She’d have far to run and though her paws begged her to carry herself back to her den for the rest of the night’s sleep, she continued to go straight. She had to do anything Lora asked of her, she had to rescue this cat.
