After waking up alone on a mountaintop with no memories, Alex is given a name by some hikers. She tells the tale of her hike down and the wildfire, and they explain a new infection called quasar is causing unpredictable mutations and death. The wildfire was probably also caused by this new invasive species from space: the Antares flower.
Alex's acquaintances Emory and Nani take her to be tested for the aforementioned infection, and this leads to Alex being taken away for further testing, without her consent.
A young soldier helps her escape, and they begin running from the military together. They try to hide out at Emory and Nani's dorms, but the police find them. Then Alex finds she was wearing contacts, and has mutations. She must be a quasar, but then why were the tests inconclusive?
Suddenly, some soldiers find them again, and a stranger smashes into Alex.
