Chapter 1: Bunny Dreams

Clover of Greeywood had always been fascinated by the stories her parents told her.

Long ago in ancient times, there was a forest called Xucuria. There stood a magical tree known as the Moon Tree. Its trunk was wide, and its branches arched elegantly towards the ground. It's leaves shimmered with a faint white glow, and its fruit was said to possess incredible power.

The Silfran were drawn to the Moon Tree, for they knew that it could absorb magic. It infused its fruit with its celestial power. The magically gifted among them would often visit the tree to harvest its fruit, which they used to create their most potent spells. The hunters, on the other hand, viewed the tree with suspicion, believing that the magic it contained was too dangerous to use.

Despite their differing opinions on the Moon Tree, both factions recognized its importance to their race. They knew that the tree held the key to their continued prosperity and advancement. As a result, they protected it with fierce dedication, even when it put them at odds with each other. The tree played a crucial role in the history of their people.

They told her stories of how the gifted and hunters had fought to protect the tree from outsiders who sought to exploit its power for their own gain. They also warned her of the dangers of becoming too reliant on magic, and how it could lead to the downfall of their civilization...

But those were just stories, and Clover was a young orphan now. Her parents had died years ago. Clover's parents were Silfran farmers who had lived on the outskirts of the town of Greeywood. They were a loving and caring couple who worked tirelessly to provide for their family. Clover had many fond memories of working with her parents on the farm, tending to the crops and animals, and enjoying simple family meals together. However, their peaceful life was abruptly shattered one fateful night. It was a moonless night when a band of vicious raiders attacked their farm, killing Clover's parents in front of her very eyes. She had hidden under the bed, frozen with fear, unable to do anything to save them. The sound of screams and swords clashing still echoed in her mind. The raiders had taken everything, including Clover's parents' lives. Since that night, Clover had been forced to fend for herself, living in a small shack in the outskirts of town, haunted by the memories of that terrible night. 

Clover woke up early each morning, feeling the familiar weight of fear in her chest. She had been having strange dreams lately, dreams that felt more like premonitions. She couldn't shake the feeling that something dangerous was coming. She forced herself to push those feelings aside and focused on her day ahead.

Clover's heart was heavy as she gazed at her rock collection, spread out in front of her. She had always found solace in the unique beauty of each stone, but today her mind was consumed by worry. Her nightmares had been getting worse, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

She picked up a smooth black stone and held it tightly in her hand, feeling the weight of it grounding her. As she examined it closely, she noticed that the usual faint glow was dimmer than usual. It was as if the stone was reacting to her fears. She set it down and picked up a bright red stone, feeling a sense of comfort in its vibrant energy.

Clover knew that her gift gave her a unique perspective on the world, but it also weighed heavily on her. She had to constantly fight the urge to isolate herself from others, afraid of what she might see in their auras. But her rock collection had always been a source of comfort, a reminder of the magic that existed in the world.

She took a deep breath and reminded herself that she couldn't let her fears consume her. She would have to stay vigilant and trust in her instincts. Clover carefully placed each stone back in its designated spot, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that no matter what was to come, she would always have her rock collection to ground her.

Clover followed her daily routine of gathering wood from the forest to sell to the town folk, keeping her head down and avoiding eye contact with anyone she encountered. What no one knew, not even her friend Grady, was that Clover was born with a unique gift. She could see the magical auras emanating from objects and people. It was a secret she kept to herself, knowing that her gift was something out of the ordinary.

As Clover made her way through the bustling town square, her eyes darted about, taking in the sights and sounds of the various shops and stalls. Her gaze was drawn to a small gemstone shop tucked away in a corner, the glittering rocks catching the sunlight. Among the display, she noticed a particular stone with a faint, yet distinct aura that only she could see. Her love for collecting such rocks was her little secret, and she couldn't resist approaching the shopkeeper to ask about it. Sadly, she didn't have enough coin to buy it. Disappointed, she turned her attention to finding some quick work to earn the necessary funds. She knew just the place to look: the blacksmith's forge.

"Good morning, Clover," said Grady as she approached the forge. He was the son of the blacksmith and was in charge when his father was away fixing wagons. He was holding a short sword behind his back, but Clover didn't pay it any mind. 

"What brings you here today?" he asked. "I'm looking for work. Do you have anything that pays more than the usual?" replied Clover.

Grady hesitated for a moment before responding, "Actually, I do have something else in mind for you. My father received a message from the neighboring town of Heavenbrook, about strange occurrences happening around their borders. They're asking for volunteers to investigate, but my father is too busy with the forge to go. I know it's dangerous, but I think it would pay well." We can go together, my father needs a few materials from there.

Clover's heart raced at the thought of danger, but the promise of a big payout was too tempting to pass up. She nodded hesitantly. "I'll do it. When do we leave?"

Grady smiled in relief. "Tomorrow morning. We'll meet at the town gates." As Clover made her way back to her shack, her mind raced with thoughts of the unknown danger lurking in the neighboring town. But despite the fear gnawing at her, she couldn't help feeling a sense of excitement at the prospect of a new adventure.
