“Happy 16th birthday, my dear Victoria!” she remembered hearing her mother saying one Monday morning. “Thank you, mother. Will you be so kind as to tell me where father is? I would like to speak with him.” Victoria’s gaze followed where her mother was pointing. His office. Of course she was pointing to his office; he is always in his office. “Thank you, mother.” Victoria walked up to the door and knocked. “Go away, I’m busy.” Victoria spoke. “It’s me, father.” The door opened. “Hello, my lotus flower.” Her father hugged her. “Come in. Come in.” Once they sat down, Victoria looked down at his desk and picked up a document. “Adoption papers?” Her father looked at her. “Well yes. Your mother and I thought it would be a good idea for you to have someone around your age in the household for you to talk to.” Victoria slightly smiled at her father. “Yes, that would be lovely.” “Wonderful. Then it is settled.” Victoria stood up, dusted off her dress and left her father’s office. She has been the only child all her life. Never did she think that on her 16th birthday she would be getting a sibling.
“Miss Victoria, your parents have requested your presence.” Victoria sat up and stretched. “Thank you, Claude. Will you please tell them I will be there shortly?” The butler bowed and left the room. Victoria stretched for the final time and stood up. She walked to the top of the stairs and spotted a strange girl at the bottom. “Why have you come with this brunette with freckles?” Her father chuckled, “Tori, this is Freya. She will be joining our family.” Victoria walked downstairs. She has never seen a brunette with freckles before. She had always thought that was more of a redhead thing. She looked Freya up and down, examining closely, then brightly smiled holding out her hand. “Welcome to the Robinsons, Freya.” Freya shook Victoria’s hand hating every moment. “Tori, why don’t you show Freya around the house. Her mother suggested. Victoria dipped her head. “Come on, Freya.” Victoria walked away with Freya following. “This is Aunt Tessa.” Victoria pointed out a gold-framed picture hanging on the wall with an emerald necklace laid neatly underneath. Freya stopped to gaze at the necklace. She slowly reached for it when Victoria slapped her hand, “Don’t touch that.” Freya looked up and Victoria was standing in front of her with her eyes narrowed. Freya rolled her eyes and walked on. Victoria thought she was just having a rough day. A week later at dinner, “How do you like it here so far, Freya?” Mrs. Robinson asked Freya watching her pick at her food. “It’s alright.” Victoria looked up from her empty plate. “May I be excused?” Her father nodded. Victoria stood up grabbing her plate to take it to the kitchen. When she got to her room she started doodling. “They don’t actually love you; you know?” Victoria looked up There stood Freya. “Not anymore, hermana.” Victoria stood up clutching her pencil. “What do you mean by that, dear Freya?” Freya chuckled. “Not after today at least.” Victoria scowled, “what could that possibly mean?” Freya skipped out of the room. Victoria gritted her teeth. “What a ginormous prick,” she muttered, starting to doodle again. “Victoria!” She walked to the top of the stairs. “Yea?” Freya stuck out her tongue and tipped backwards falling down the stairs. Victoria stood mortified as Freya started crying while her parents ran to comfort her. “What have you done, Victoria?” Victoria, for the first time yelled. “I didn’t do anything!” Her mother stomped up the stairs and slapped her. “You do not get to yell at me.” Mr. Robinson grabbed his wife’s hand. “Do not touch my child.” Victoria spun around with her pink tipped blonde hair drooping down her back down her back and she stormed off. She slammed her door, tears filling her emerald and diamond eyes. She didn’t know what she did to deserve this. Victoria stared out the window. She fell asleep. It was like this for months until one day, Freya disappeared..
