For the people of State 16, life is spent inside a walled city, governed and guarded by a mysterious AI company that tells them it's for their own good. There's no way out, except for The Cages--a massive, televised fight in which robots and enhanced humans clash in urgent, violent battle. Only the victors have the opportunity to see life outside of the walls, earning a chance at recruitment into State 16's vast military, to fight a war against unknown aggressors. One team, desperate for this one chance, is determined to go the distance. But they might discover along the way that the price for victory might be higher than they can pay--and each of them has secrets that might make trust impossible.
