Chapter 1
Every day was always the same for Evelyn, wake up at 5:30 and spend 15 minutes contemplating her life choices before the meowing of her cat Midnight would get her out of bed. From then she got dressed grabbed her phone and headphones and headed to the gym for her daily hour workout. She comes home showers and hurries to classes for her biology degree before heading to work at the college admission center. By the time her day was done, the sun had well set. Soon it'd be time for it to be done again just like yesterday and the day before. That was how Evelyn liked it calm and predictable just like the adult she tried to be. But today was different.
DING DING DING
The alarm clock shrieked from the side of my bed. I groan and turn over my arm hitting the clock as I struggle to find the off button. As soon as I hit the off button my ears register the sound of my cat meowing next to me. I groan and turn to see Midnight staring at me, his eyes wide and expectant. It's time to get up. But as I sit up, I feel a strange sense of anticipation in the air. Something feels different today, though I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I can't shake the feeling that today is going to be unlike any other day. As I start my morning routine, I can't help but wonder what surprises might be in store for me. I comb through my thick curly hair before going to give Midnight her daily can of cat food which she takes gratefully. As I sit in my kitchen drinking a fresh cup of tea I hear the familiar ding from my phone. I quickly grab it from my pocket checking the screen. I unlock it as I glance at the screen, I spot not a text from my friend as i expected but only an unexpected text from an unknown number. Curious, I open the message, and it reads, "Hello Evelyn, I have something important to tell you. " I dismiss the message as spam and continue making my way to the gym. Little did I know that that was the biggest mistake of my life.
Evelyn is a rebellious first year college student at the University of Ithaca where every day is the same: class, work, sleep repeat. But what happens when a series of cryptic messages leads her to the forbidden pars of campus grounds.
