Humanity, the race who rule over the surface of the Earth. They, or rather, We are the ones on top of the food chain. We are the creatures who are capable of thinking and discovering new things. And thanks to our curiosity and desire to explore the unknown, as well as the push nature gave us, we discovered fire through lightning striking a simple, yet seemingly insignificant tree branch. After that, the humans that time worshipped nature, and continued using the things it gave us. With the ever so slightly shift on everyone's lives back then, a chain of events lead to the advancement of all humanity.
Agriculture, language, laws, the arts, technology, and even culture and religion. Each and every one of these things, were thanks to the actions of those in the past. Cultivating through the years, the lives of us humans turned somewhat peaceful and easy.
Though not all discoveries really had an effect on everyone's lives. Until the appearance of a new type of energy yet to be fully understood by the ones who discovered it a few years ago. Currently, it was widely known as Magic Energy.
During its first appearance on the world, a large quantity of the world's population seemingly turned into magicians, able to control the Potential Magic Energy within them and turning it into Kinetic Magic Energy with varying characteristics.
But as of recent times, no set of specific laws had been upheld that allows people to use their abilities in any major way. Though people were allowed to use such power as a convenience to their everyday lives and as a defensive measure when such a need arises.
If someone were to be found experimenting with their powers to create a weapon of mass destruction, they would be killed on the spot without question. The first year of the era of magic was truly a chaotic period of time.
With thousands of deaths due to criminals using their blessings as a curse towards everyone around them, there rose vigilantes who try to capture such criminals. But only to put them six feet under due to the lack of an option to restrain one's Magic Energy.
And about the state of the peace between all the countries, along with the problem about terrorists are getting worse as time passed. With a few countries making a move on trying to take over as much territory as possible. For example, the Chinese are going on an all-out war with the Philippines to take ownership of the West Philippine Sea, or the South China Sea as others call it.
There were also dozens of cases of ISIS, making a move once again with an unexpectedly large amount of people reaching near fifty thousand. It was an abrupt and quick move that even the troops from America who supposedly withdrew were unsurprisingly stressed as they were sent there again, only to fight a losing battle even with reinforcements from other neighboring countries. There was literally chaos and destruction everywhere.
But as for Japan, the most technologically advanced country in the whole world, it wasn't really facing that much of a problem unlike the countries just next door from them. Not one single time were they attacked since the appearance of Magic. But oh boy they were busy, busy with their research on how they could practically use this newfound power. So basically, they were just nerding out without batting an eye about the literal chaos around them.
I, Ishikawa Kazuki, am one of them. A third year middle school student that doesn't usually show my passion and appreciation for the medium called Anime and Manga. And as a literal cover-up for my otaku nature, I studied my ass off and act as normal as possible around normal people. And I just unexpectedly became the smartest in my school.
I even get three to four love letters every week. Um... Thank you for your affection but I've already given my heart to someone. But it kinda hurts me a little when I see those girls start to tear up from my rejections. But don't worry, I try to comfort them whenever that time rises. I know it's still cruel but I don't want to give them hope and just crush their innocent hearts when that time comes.
About that someone I had already given my heart to, she's meeting me today after three years of being apart and with no contact. I just hope she's still the pure and wonderful girl she was when I last saw her.
And you can't argue with me about her not being worth the wait. She's literally the most beautiful girl in the world. With her glossy, long and black hair, eyes that sparkles like a star, a body anyone would be jealous of, and a personality so cute that you would want to pamper her when she feels down. She's also a really, really nice person! That was basically the main reason why I like her. To put it into terms, she would be best girl if we were in an anime, no doubt about it.
Today, as I just said earlier, we'll be hanging out after a long time of not being able to see each other. My other friends told me that she just arrived here yesterday and wanted to go somewhere for old times sake. You can probably consider this as a date. Probably… I don't know… Maybe?
[Reporting in from the Miyazaki Prefecture as we are currently flying above the destruction the giant tsunami had befallen on us! As you can see here, everything here was completely taken off the map! Casualties amount to thousands as we speak! And the cause of this tragedy is still unknown!]
The reporter yelled as the loud noise of the helicopter's blades resounded in the background. I was currently eating breakfast my mom cooked for me. And I was enjoying every bite I took.
"I really hope no more disasters happen." Mom worriedly said as she washed some fruits before we ate them.
My dad then ate a forkful of the pancakes mother prepared for him and lightly brandished the fork he held as he chewed. "Hun, don't worry about that! It's not like some Kaiju is waking up from the depths of the Pacific."
"Don't talk as you chew, you're not a child anymore." Mom told him while she had a weakly pouting expression. "Oh, sorry about that."
He then looked at me and asked. "Kazuki, what about you? What've you been thinking about?"
I then blankly stared at him after swallowing my food. "Nothing really, just being silently anxious about today. Since it's been so long I don't even know what to talk about with her. I feel like I'm losing brain cells just thinking about it... " I dejectedly spoke.
"Oh don't get so worked up about it." Mom said as she walked towards us, bowl of fruits in hand. "It'll work out. Look at your father and I, married for more than two decades with little to no problems. This is what happens when all your problems just appear when you're in highschool. And that's because of your dense father." She glared at dad after saying all that
"Eh!? You were so much of a tsun back then that I thought you hated me! You even uppercutted me when I tried checking if you had a fever by placing your forehead on mine!" Dad rebutted.
Mom blushed at the memory and yelled back. "That was embarrassing! So of course I acted on impulse! We were walking to school with lots of people around us!".
A chuckle then escaped my mouth as I watched my parents have a quick quarrel. But then I remembered something important. It was almost time for me to go to our rendezvous point.
"Mom, Dad, I'll be going now. She might get mad if I'm late." I said, catching both their attention.
"But it's still twenty minutes early until ten o' clock? Are you sure you're leaving already?" My mom asked. She seems to be quite serious about me going with Naomi today. I guess she was really fond of her.
"Well, yeah. It's a rule for us guys to arrive ten minutes or more before the agreed time." I replied, standing up and walking to the front door.
After putting on my shoes, I opened the front door, with the bright and almost blinding light of the sun flowing into the house.
"I'll be back later." I said before closing the door. Then, I just headed out towards the station.
I was really excited today. You could even say that it's somewhat turning into slight anxiety that I might blow this chance to say I lo-... Lo-... I can't even say it in my mind when it's directed towards her!
I then checked above, looking at the clear blue sky. Fall was just right around the corner and the air was steadily lowering in temperature. But it really wasn't that cold, just the right amount of warmth and coolness.
Catching a glimpse of a few children playing by the park, I turned my head. They seem to be playing with magic, fire magic to be specific. But they're still too young so it won't be much, they'll only be able to warm up some object.
"Hm?" I let out, seeing one of them tremble. She seems to be intolerant to cold temperatures even though it still wasn't that cold outside.
I then noticed that a boy was with her, and told her something before holding her cheeks, causing her to smile at him. He was trying to warm her up using the magic he was able to use.
Adorable. I thought, smiling at the sight of such a cute pair.
Reaching into my pocket, I took out my smartphone. I then checked the message I was sent yesterday and read where to meet her. It was just to confirm since I was somewhat nervous.
"Just look around the station. She'll be there." The text from my friend stated. "Godspeed my brotha!wwww"
I let out a sigh. Feeling more and more uncomfortable and anxious the closer I got to the station. Just why is this happening to me? Is all of my luck being used up in this one day?
Walking for a minute or two, the station finally came into view. Around and inside it walked dozens of people likely to be going to work or to hang out with a friend or two. But there seems to be a lot more people my age.
As I entered the station, I looked around to see which places I should go to wait for her. But I can't seem to decide.
Then as I stood there, thinking, someone behind me poked my sides, my literal weak spot that I never tell anyone.
"Gah!!!" I let out, jumping in surprise. Then right after I turned to see who knew such a vital point about me, I froze.
It was really her. Of course it was. Who else would know me too well that they would know my most hated function of my body. But well, I don't mind. It's her after all. The one I adore most.
While I unintentionally smiled as I stared at her, she greeted me joyfully. "Kazu, how's it been?" She seems to be suppressing something since it showed in her brightly shining azure eyes. Ahhh... So that's how it is.
I took a simple step forward. Then reached around her and calmly held her near me. She was openly embarrassed and confused about how straightforward I was today.
This warmth... It's been so long since I've felt this. I feel so rejuvenated. Did I really feel this much affection towards her three years ago? No... It was much less before, but I guess seeing her again smiling at me made me a bit euphoric.
"No need to keep it in. I missed you too Naomi."
I gently brushed through her long black hair, reminiscing about how soft and glossy it was. Oh... Some people are watching. I gotta let go of her.
"Idiot" She whispered, hugging me back. I could only imagine her being so so red right now. Even though a lot of people could see us, she was continuing her embrace with me. She was even tightening her hold of me. I guess she really needed this.
I just sighed and ignored the people around us. I mean, were they even that important anyway? The embrace seemed so long that I lost track of time and the train we were going on was about to leave. Luckily, we were able to get on board on time.
