The Year is 1329. Yuhe Kufong is a young boy, around the age of 8 or 7. He was currently staying in an old, cheap house just outside of Shirakawa. He originally came from China, but his Grandparents had brought him with them to Japan, along with his Sister, after his Parents had died from disease. They were currently living a bit poorly, but scraping by, for the most part. Yuhe was staring out the window, when he heard scampering by his ear. He turned to see a small Rat prowling around by his arm, and then, to his surprise, climbing up onto it. He was a little scared, but he didn’t yelp or scream. Yuhe was a very quiet boy, never really speaking. As he shivered for a moment, he started to relax, seeing that the Rat was not hurting him. As it crawled up onto his shoulder, he let out a small giggle, seeing the tiny, furry little creature scamper around on him. He heard the door open, as his older sister, Jiejie, walked in. She’s around 14, with long black hair and pearl-coloured eyes.
“Yuhe.” Jiejie said, walking over. “Know you’re bored, and it’s too cold out to play, but don’t play with rats, dummy. Now come on, Grandma made Dinner.”
Yuhe nodded and set the rat down, as he walked to the Kitchen. His Grandfather had caught Raccoons with a hand made trap, and his Grandmother had made it into soup. To be fair, it was the most well-prepared dinner he’s had since they got there. Usually they just ate some fruit growing on trees, and maybe some squirrels. At least Grandma knew how to cook just about anything, so they rarely got sick. After eating, Yuhe was asked to go down into the Basement, to retrieve his Grandfather’s hat, which he always wore when he went hunting. Yuhe remembered a story his Grandpa had told him, about how the Hat was lucky, and he always had a good haul when he wore it. As Yuhe went into the Basement, however, he tripped over one of the old rickety steps. As he hit the floor, he felt a burning pain in his leg, and turned to see that his foot was definitely facing the wrong way. He had broken it when he fell. He couldn’t bring himself to scream, cry, or make any audible noise. He just laid on the cold basement floor. After about 10 minutes, he tried to crawl around, which worked surprisingly well. He crawled over to the corner, and sat upright, feeling his leg with tears in his eyes. He laid his head back against the wall and closed his eyes, trying to ignore the pain in his leg, when he looked over, coming face to face with a freaking Skeleton! He let out a quiet gasp. It wasn’t much, though he was terrified. He couldn’t help but stare intensely at the Skeleton. It had on a torn outfit, with nothing covering its head or lower legs. It’s likely been there for a while. Once Yuhe was over his shock, he looked down at its leg. He noted how it was straight and unbroken...it was a perfect leg. He stared at the leg, and slowly looked back at his own. He sighed, and reached over, taking one of the Skeleton’s arms. He bit down on it, as he grabbed ahold of his foot. He, while struggling quite a bit, managed to forcibly bend his leg back into place. After doing so, he had to sit back against the wall, tired, and with the nasty taste of decayed bone in his mouth. He looked at the arm bone, marvelling at the shape. It had been broken and cracked by his teeth, but still mostly retained its original shape. He scooted over to the Skeleton, now looking it in the face. He slowly reached up, feeling the cheekbones, and caressing the orbital bones. They were wonderfully smooth, with little to no blemishes. He felt the ribs, noting that a few were broken or missing. They were quite sturdy, but one did break off, going inward while he was feeling it. This made him flinch and unconsciously rub his side. He then did something strange...something he’s never done before...he spoke to himself.
“That seems...terribly counterintuitive…” Yuhe said to himself, in a whisper. “They’re designed to protect the Lungs, but if one breaks the wrong way, the lung is done for…”
He felt the Skeleton’s lower spine, noting how he could barely move some of the discs.
“And this...this is the most important bone in the body…” He said to himself. “But if it’s structured just a little bit off, it can cause back pain...or even paralysis…”
He continued to examine the Skeleton, finding numerous faults and potential conditions that The One Above had seemingly overlooked. As he felt and studied the Skeleton, he could feel himself smile, and sweat with joy. He was oddly happy. He could tell that, at this moment, he has access to something that many doctors would dream of having. He could see the faults and anatomy of the Human Body...he could see it all! As he did this, something bizarre happened. Yes, more bizarre than finding a dead person in your basement. His body started to slowly be engulfed by a faint yellow light. It was as if he was...glowing? He felt tingling throughout his body, from the top of his head, to the tips of his fingers and toes. He felt...stronger, too. He suddenly realized that his leg had stopped hurting, and he was able to stand on it. Funnily enough, when he stood up, he found his Grandpa’s hat. He climbed the stairs, avoiding the broken one this time, and handed his hat to his father.
“What were ya doin’ down there, boy?” His Grandfather asked, jovially. “Sure took ya long enough.”
Yuhe didn’t respond. He was still deep in thought, and eager to get back to his canvas.
