There once was a frog with the heart of a knight. You may think this is ridiculous. A frog can never be a knight you think. It matters not what you think. The frog is motivated and will find a way to become a knight like the lady knight she so admires. The frog wanted to be like the lady knight, beautiful yet fierce. Kind but strong. Each day the frog would watch the lady knight train endlessly. She would train in hopes of slaying her life long enemy. The dragon that destroyed her town. The frog knew of this because she would talk of it often. The frog truly admired her dedication. The frog wanted to aid the knight. The only issue being her hands that were too small for a sword. Too small for a dagger even.
How the frog longed to be a knight. The gods had not been kind to herShe stood at a mighty 1.5 inches. Her only trait she felt that could aid her in her fight against the dragon might be her poison abilities but in order to use them she had to be eaten. She doubted her poison would be enough to kill a dragon. Still nothing was impossible. The frog croaked confidently. Now how to achieve this. She remembered the lady knight speaking of a lake with magical abilities. It brought her back to the brink of death from a dragon attack. Nothing survives a dragon attack. So the lake must truly be special. The frog decided to journey to the lake from the knights town. The frog was scared she had never explored far from her pond. If she truly wanted this then she would have to step out of her comfort zone.
She had arrived at the lake. It was located near the ruins of the lady knights town. No one dared to go back there since the dragon attacked, for fear she may return. It took the frog some time because directions were not her strong suit and because of her size the journey took longer than it should have.It was such a relief when she came across the lake. It was truly beautiful. The lake reflected the perfect picturesque sky. It reflected the clouds and sun. The frog had been so thirsty from the journey and her stomach was empty. She ate what she could on the way but it wasn’t enough. The only thing keeping her going was her will. She hoped the lake would help her with these issues. Hopefully she wasn’t asking for too much. She knew the lake was powerful but part of her was still worried it wouldn’t work. Then her journey would be for naught because she would die. She leaped into the water’s perfect surface.
She felt the water engulf her whole being. The frog had been in bodies of water before but none like this. The water wasn’t cold. It was warm and comforting in fact. It reminded her of being on her fathers back as a tadpole. She couldn’t see anything, it was pitch black. There was a flicker of blue light. The light was ethereal. It felt familiar.
“Hello little one.” A voice spoke to the frog. The frog made a surprised noise. The frog looked at the light and felt the voice coming from it. “Do not be afraid, for I am a goddess.” The frog started to understand just how special this lake was. “I sense much discourse in your small body. I have read your heart and sense what it is you desire. My power is being sapped by the dragon. She drinks from my lake often. Sapping my power. She is invincible. I attempted to create a knight in the past.” The light took the form of the lady knight. “There was much discourse within her as well. Hatred for the dragon who had killed her family and everyone she knew. Sadness because the life she knew was erased in an instant. I tried to erase her sadness but it was beyond my power. I tried to cool the flames of her hatred but I must admit I may have stoked them. I too was infuriated by the dragon. How dare she take the lives of my beloved followers. The town was blossoming. They could have been great.” The blue light suddenly started to morph into an aggressive red. The frog no longer felt safe. In fact she felt as if she was in danger. She tried futilely to swim away. The goddess must have noticed her fear and the red light began to vanish until it changed from white. It felt as if the goddess may have been embarrassed by her earlier actions. The feeling of aggression had vanished.
“I apologize little one…” The goddess said the white barely visible. “It appears after all this time I am still upset about it. I just get reminded every time that cursed dragon drinks from my lake.” The red hue started to return. It was then extinguished again. “Perhaps I made a mistake in thinking hatred would help me achieve my goals. Mayhaps a different emotion will help me achieve my purpose. Love.” The voice started to turn pink. “ I have seen incredible feats accomplished in the name of love. Go my second knight! Slay the dragon! I bestow upon you what remaining power I have. I bless you with an ideal knight's body similar to my previous knights. I sense strong will in you and I know you shall complete this task. I bless your poison abilities now you may store more poison and you can excrete it at will, I have also made it stronger. Strong enough to take down a dragon. Now return to whence you came. Assemble a team and kill that dragon in my name. When you see life leave the dragon's eyes you tell them you were sent by Jaya!” The light became red again. The frog felt her body start to change and stretch. She could feel her being rewritten by Jaya. It was incredibly painful but the frog knew this was what she wanted. She would simply have to endure.
CRASH!
The frog panicked. What could that noise be? The voice quickly turned white and then yellow.
“It’s her…” The voice said barely above a whisper. The dragon had come to drink from the lake of the goddess. The frog felt fear take over her entire body. “My knight” She felt the transformation stop. “ I do not have the ability to continue your transformation. I must evacuate you quickly. I will use the remainder of my power to send you somewhere safe. Please avenge me-” That was the last thing the frog heard before she felt a new feeling. It felt as if she was becoming unraveled. She was surrounded by white and then there was nothing.
