She stared straight ahead as she ran. Her face filled with emotion. Bitterness. Joy. Relief. Sorrow. Adventure. Freedom. Her hair, in all of its curly goodness, flew straight back as the wind raced past her face and through her hair. She didn't know where she was heading, not really. But it didn't matter. She was free! FREE! She wanted to do something, be something, see something, tell someone- and on that thought, she cut herself off.
She was free from them now, but who knows when they'll catch up? She needed to get as far away as possible while it was still nighttime and they were asleep. She wondered, when they wake up, how will they react? Joy? Anger? Disbelief? She let mischievous giggle before cupping her mouth to stop herself. She wasn't out of the woods yet - and then she giggled again - literally. How damn big are these woods anyway?
The furthest she'd ever been was, maybe, a 100 yards. She'd been running for at least 30 minutes and even if she was tired, which she was, she wouldn't stop for anything and not for anyone. Trees passed by her in a blur of brown, blending into the dark night. That was until a light entered her eyes. Even from the distance she was at she could feel the heat. As she got closer, it felt all-enveloping and caring like a mother - no, not like a mother is, but what a mother should be. As she got even closer, the fire grew. It was the size of a house and what once felt like a warm embrace was replaced by a snarling beast of hellfire. Dancing wildly and snapping at anything close.
She wanted to look away. She really wanted to. She had places to be and things to do, but her eyes were drawn to the fire. More specifically, the cage that was the center of the raging fire. It burned brightly like the sun, dangerous to look at for too long but too mysterious and beautiful to gaze anywhere else. Then she saw movent in the middle of the cage.
"Impossible..." She muttered under her breath and then breaking out of her stupid, she ran forward into the jaws of the demon. Not even sure of why she was doing something so foolish, she stepped into the fire, immediately feeling the burning sensation cover her whole body. She wanted to leave, but something stopped her. The thought of someone dying alone, burned alive, trapped somewhere they didn't belong sent a gut-wrenching pain throughout her whole body stronger than the demon consuming her did.
She pushed her arm between the bars, but she couldn't touch them without her arm touching the metal. She wasn't dumb, she knew what would happen if that happened, but looking at the unconscious person, she clenched her teeth and pushed forward.
"AHHHH!" She howled in pain. Her arm turning into barbeque on a stick, no, on a bone, felt no better than you'd imagine. She could smell her own burning flesh and she almost threw up. Almost. She had to do something now. She shook the person, attempting to wake them, idly thinking about how this person isn't burning with how they slept like a log and then laughing at her own joke. Which only served to cause her more pain as she gasped in pain.
She had to do something and soon.
'Think! The cage is made of metal. But, it's also made of wood. I don't see a door or opening! Can I bend the metal since it's hot? ...Hahaha -no. What about the wood? If the cage was made of metal, then I could break it but its metal. COME ON! AVA YOU ARE THE BEST ESCAPE ARTIST IN THE WORLD! HOW CAN A SIMPLE CAGE HOLD YOU!? That's right! It's a simple cage. They couldn't have made the frame out of all metal.'
She pulled back her arm, held her hands around the bars, grabbed hold, and shouted,
"BREAK!"
*SNAP*
Two metal bars broke free, but it wasn't enough. She was clutching her hands in agony and she would've had a tear-soaked face if not for the fire evaporating any effort her eyes made. She looked down at her hands. There was no more flesh on her palms and she could see some white sticking out on her fingers. Gasping in horror she looked away. She couldn't think about her right now. She would live, but... she looked up and -steeled- herself while chuckling at her own pun.
"Two more!"
She grabbed hold of the two offending bars and jerked. Only one broke free as she landed on the ground with a crack. Not even caring about the pain, she got up, hardened her eyes, and grabbed it with both hands and jerked!
*CRACK*
The bar went flying in the air, but she didn't care about that. She grabbed hold of the person and yanked as hard as could. She flew through the air and landed on the ground clutching the person in between her burnt arms. As she started losing consciousness, she finally saw who it was that she saved. It was a girl. Absolutely gorgeous. Pale white skin flushed red from the heat. Hair that flowed like molten light. The woman opened her eyes right then and she felt herself smiling as she felt the life leaving her.
"Hey, I'm Ava," she croaked out and the passed out.
