A soldier walked slowly around the pit. Above and below him, many others were doing the same. Their job? To guard the ancient evil within. Down, way down, all the way down to the bottom, Fethnier looked down at the beast they were imprisoning. It didn't look very threatening. The man, for that is what it was, looked up at him and smiled. It's whole face was stretched around that smile. Shuddering, Fethnier looked away hurriedly. "You think I look horrible, yes-yes?" He whipped his head round looking for the speaker. He looked at the creature. It hadn't moved. "Who's there?!" He demanded, "Show yourself!" Suddenly, he heard the voice again, "But I am right in front of you - this man's body is just a shell-shell, you know. The real deal is in the mind… Just like-like this voice!" Fethnier gripped his head and dropped to his knees. His skull felt so painful, it could have been aflame. Was he going insane?! "Unfortunately not, but I can make-make it happen!" "Please, no! Have mercy! I beg you!" He screamed. "Very well then, all-all you need to do is come down here and unlock these-these chains that keep me bound in this… weak form." "Ye-es yes, I'll do anything!" He promised. Wait? Why was he doing this again? He was meant to be keeping this thing prisoner-AARAGHH! His head felt like it was in a vice. Breathing heavily, he scrambled over the barriers and ran towards the beast - anything to stop the pain! After fumbling with the keys on his waist, he unlocked the glowing-green bindings and sank to the ground as the thumping in his head subsided. "Aaaaah, thank-thank you." It sounded like it was stretching up after a long slumber. The host of the creature dropped to the ground with a wet thud, blood spreading out from its grisly smile. A black miasma seemed to ooze out from under it. As it rose up in the air, Fethnier heard the voice again: "Now-Now, I am only partly free - I need your body to complete my escape!" The man's whimper rose to a scream! And then was cut off abruptly. Fethnier got up again, with a new purpose. As he started the long walk up to the surface, he smiled widely.
