I hated going to school, but I guess a lot of teenagers say they don’t like school. It was my junior year of high school. My older brother Ken was driving us to school like he did ever since he got his license. We had just moved to this small town in Nebraska. My father willingly transferred from his old office to start a new branch in this dingy town. Moving to a new town during the summer sucked because it meant that you knew no one once school started. Even though the school year had started weeks ago I haven’t even tried to make friends. I just didn't like interacting with people. I just wanted to go through my last few years of high school without any drama. I don’t think it’s a lot to ask. I mean I already think had my fill of drama last year. We pulled into the school parking lot my brother ran off quickly not wanting to be seen me. He ran off making sure to flip me the bird as he left.
I slowly started making my way from the parking lot to the school building. I soon as I stepped out into the intersection of the parking lot a red truck sped out towards me. I quickly jumped out of the way. I fell on the cement parking lot. I got up and brushed the dirt off my body. I started walking to the red truck car. I mean this is why the crashes caused by teenage drivers are so high because jerks like them aren't paying attention when driving. When I got to where the truck parked the driver's door opened. A pair of boots stepped out onto the parking lot. The person that was driving the truck was Felix Claytons. Felix was 6.2 and had golden blond hair and deep forest green eyes. He got out of his truck. I didn’t know Felix Claytons personally but he seemed to be one of the more popular guys in our grade. He was always surrounded by a group of people, and he and his friends would always look like they were having a good time. I never talked to him but he didn’t seem like someone who would want to be around me. I started marching towards him. I didn’t care who this jerk was. He was going to get chewed out for almost running me over.
“Hey don’t you know that you are supposed to watch out for people in parking lots,” I said.
“What are you talking about,” Felix said.
“Back there when you were driving in the parking lot you nearly hit me,” I said.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t see you. You are so tiny it's easy to miss you,” Felix said. Now I was angry. Who did this jerk think he was. First, he nearly ran me over and now this jerk gives me some crappy apology.
“Hey who the hell do you think you are,” I started to shout before getting interrupted.
“Hey Felix who is this kid chewing you out like that,” A voice said. I turned around and saw three big dudes. Huddle behind me. I took I step forward trying to get away from them. I hate being this close to people. I am okay with being around people I just didn’t like being surrounded by a group. I stumbled forward falling into Felix's arms.
“Wow, Felix this kid must really like you. Just look he is throwing himself onto you,” One of his friends. I pushed myself off Felix and started running to the school building. I got away from them I heard them talking and laughing. I couldn’t make out much of what they were saying. All I could make out was “He is totally gay”. I knew right away they were talking about me. Great now it's starting again. Soon rumors will spread and things will be like my old school.
I tried to forget about what happened this morning. I wasn’t supposed to be causing problems for myself but there I was chewing out one of the most popular guys in school. The morning continued like usual except I had a pair of green eyes staring at me in every class. I didn’t know what his friends told him about me, but it must have not been good the way he was looking at me. At the end of the fourth period, it was finally lunchtime at least now I blend into the crowd without Felix staring at me.
I wandered the cafeteria looking for a place to sit. Even after a week of being at this school, I didn't have a usual place to sit. This is to be expected since I haven’t bothered to make any friends. So I usually sat by myself at an empty table or at the end of a table where there weren't many people. I looked around until I saw an empty table in the corner. I turned around and then thud I crashed into what was a hulking mass of muscle. I fell back onto the floor. My lunch was smeared all over the front of my shirt. Great, why did I have to get the sloppy joe I thought. I had sloppy joe, salad with dressing, and pudding all over the front of my shirt. I heard people laughing at what happened.
“Woah Felix this kid must really like you the way he keeps running into your arms,” one of the guys said. I looked at the guy I had run into. I had run into Felix Claytons. It was hard to forget the 6.2 giant with a blond crew cut and forest green eyes. I looked at him and he seemed upset
I stood up grabbed my stuff and rushed out of the cafeteria. I didn’t feel like getting beaten up for running into him.
I headed to the nearest men's bathroom. I grabbed a paper towel and wet it down trying to wipe off most of my former lunch. I took my shirt off to try to get the stains out. I got most of the stains out but my shirt was soaking wet. Great just what I need. Ugh, this fricking cheap school couldn’t they at least afford one hand dryer. I kept dabbing my shirt with paper towels to get the moisture out. After a while, I gave up. I didn't realize that in the whole process of cleaning my shirt I was being watched. “So are you going to wear a wet shirt or do you have a backup?” A voice said.
I turned around and saw that the person who was looking at me was Felix Claytons. His piercing green eyes eyed my shirtless body. “No I don't have a backup shirt, I will just have to wear this one even if it is sopping wet,” I said.
“Well, I have an extra one if you don't mind it being a little bit bigger than yours.” He said. He then reached into his bag and pulled a red jersey out. “Here you can borrow my extra jersey.” He said.
“No, I can’t do that you don’t even know me. I just couldn’t borrow your jersey,” I said pushing his jersey back to him.
“Come one dude just take it. It's going to suck wearing a wet shirt for the rest of the day. So just take it,” He said.
“Thanks,” I said taking the jersey out of his hand. I pulled it over my body. The jersey was two sizes too big and it draped off my frame. I looked back at him he had a big dopey grin on his face. “Thanks, Felix I will give it back Monday,” I looked at him his cheeks blushed.
“You really look cute in my jersey,” He said. I was taken aback by what he said. I obviously must have misheard. This straight guy said I was cute. Wait he is straight right. No Trevor you can't think like that you will just get your hopes up again and then have to face the consequences if you’re wrong.
“What did you say,” I said. Trying my best to keep a straight face.
“I have heard the rumors about you. So just want to test something,” He said. He then leaned and kissed me. I felt his tongue go into my mouth. I was in too big of a shock to do anything. I just enjoyed his mouth on mine. His hand snuck under his jersey and he placed his hand on my bare chest. That is what pulled me back to reality. I quickly pushed him off.
“What the hell do you think you're doing?” I yelled
“I'm sorry ever since this morning you caught my attention. I thought you were really cute and I heard rumors about you. So just thought,” He said
“Look I appreciate you lending me your jersey, but I am not here to be used for some straight guy to experiment with his sexuality okay. I have already dealt with enough crap from guys like you at my old school,” I said.
“I know I'm sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. Just know I don’t need to use you to test my sexuality,” He said.
“Wait you are,” I started to say before he interrupted me.
“Yes I am gay, He said.
“Let’s just forget about the whole kiss thing,” I said trying to defuse the situation so I could get out of here.
“I don’t know if I can forget about it. That was a pretty amazing kiss. I know you probably don’t want to be around me, but I would like to get to know you more. So can we please be friends?” He said. I didn’t know how to respond. I was shocked that this popular jock who just kissed me now was gay and he wanted to be friends with me. I wanted to say no but I just couldn’t. He didn’t seem like a bad guy and who knows maybe he is interested in me.
“Sure we can be friends,” I said. He then pulled me into a big hug jumping up and down like an overly excited kid.
He then stopped the hug and pushed me away. “Please don't tell anyone about the kiss or what I told you. I am still not out yet you know,” Felix said.
“Don't worry I won't, I promise,” I said. What I told him was the truth is I would never out a person when they are not ready. Frankly, I know what it's like to come out when you are not ready.
He then walked out of the restroom. I was in shock but I was also very happy. I never thought a guy like him would ever be interested in me. He really was an interesting guy. I just knew deep down that I shouldn't get my hopes. Chances are that it's just going to lead to disappointment.
