I slowly got up out of the hospital bed and slowly trudge over to the window to look out at the pack grounds, spotting a few of my pack members mixed with the lost timber pack. I sigh dejectedly and step away from the window before slowly walking over to the door and slipping out into the hallway before wandering down the hall while pulling the hood on the oversized hoodie up. I walk up to the front desk and see a familiar person sitting behind the desk.
“Hey Pierce, how are you doing this morning?” Anton asked as he stood up and walked around the desk and over to me but all I did was shrug before diverting my gaze away from my packs healer as his eyes glowed slightly as he watched me.
“What have I told you about using my last name, Anton?” I asked while dogging his question causing him to roll his eyes slightly at me and snorted lightly before walking back behind the desk while I quickly slipped out the door of the hospital and into the fresh air outside. I sighed and twitched my tail as I headed towards the pack house to settle some business for my pack.
I quickly stretched my wings and shook them slightly before folding them back against my back as I turned my slow walk into a jog, people waved at me as I passed them and I could feel the worry rolling off of them as they watched me head towards the pack house. Once I reached the six-story mansion I quickly entered the door before walking towards the stairs but stop when I bump into someone sending a slight tingling feeling across my body.
“Who are you?” The person muttered, I glance up to be met with auburn eyes of a man I have never seen before so I ignore him and walk past him but he quickly grabs my arm and pulls me back to him quickly while spinning me around to face him, I growl slightly as he yanks me towards him quickly again.
“My name is Rhain, why do you ask” I questioned emotionlessly as the man stared at me as a small amount of guilt flashed through his eyes.
“Well Rhain, I’m sorry to say but I don’t accept you as my mate…” He growled out causing me to stiffen slightly as I try to not react to the pain in my chest from the rejection. I take a deep shaky breath and smile slightly at him while taking note of the surprise on his face while also bringing some of my energy to my hand and suppressing the glow.
“Well, mate I accept your rejection and hope you find someone worthy of your love. I would love to stay and chat but I am busy at the moment, so if you will excuse me” I said and lightly patted his chest before continuing towards the stairs and up to the Alphas office and once I reached the door I knocked lightly before slowly opening the door and entering, closing it behind me.
“Keir, we need to talk,” I stated causing the man behind the desk who just so happened to have a phone held up to his ear stared at me before muttering that he had to go before hanging up the phone and standing up.
“What’s wrong?” He asked worriedly while quickly walking around the desk towards me, I shake my head and walk over to the large window covering the back of his office and looking down at the large field that was in my view.
“I think it’s time I give my Alpha title over to Quillian” I stated allowing tears to slowly fall down my cheeks as I hung my head in shame before turning away from the window to look at my brother as he stared at me with watering eyes.
“Why, what happened? Do you not believe that we can save you Rhain?” He asked as he started pacing the room, I could feel the sadness rolling off of him as he continued to pace. I looked away from him as my eyes watered more.
“My mate rejected me, but that’s a good thing I guess. You will get over my death, the packs will get over my death as well…” I muttered as I glanced out the large window to see that a few of the people on the field are now looking up into the office window.
“Rhain, please don’t do this, you know I can’t survive without you” He cried, causing my heart to clench painfully. I glanced at the door as it opened and Kala entered along with Quillian and Lupe, Kala walked over to Keir as Lupe and Quillian stood near the door which was still open slightly.
“What’s going on?” Lupe asked as she glanced between Keir and myself, I look back out the window again.
“We all know I won’t survive this, I was simply stating the fact that I think it’s time to pass the Alpha title onto Quillian,” I muttered.
“Why?” Quillian asked as he stared at me uneasily, tears slowly rolling down his face as he stared at me causing me to swallow as my mouth dried.
“ We all knew that I would die around the age of twenty-five or twenty-six and me being me shortened that time by using my energy, I don’t think I will even make it to my nineteenth birthday, and I definitely won’t make it to my twentieth birthday…” I whispered as I watched the tears stream down all of their faces.
“I’m gonna go and visit Viktor and Byron to tell them, they would want to know. I will be back soon, hopefully…” I whispered before I quickly walked out of the office and down the hall with my head facing the floor while heading out of the house and bump into someone.
“Sorry, I need to watch where I’m going…” I muttered before stepping around the person, not bothering to look up to see who it was.
“Alpha!! Where ya goin?!” I heard someone yell as Footsteps quickly approached me quickly causing me to look up and see Phaidra quickly approaching me and I also heard footsteps behind me stop.
“Hello Phaidra, I am off to say goodbye to some friends, I should be back soon to say goodbye to everyone else” I said softly causing her to gasp and quickly pull me into a hug as she started to cry, I wrapped one of my arms around her waist and rubbed her back trying to soothe her.
“Everyone knew this would happen once we found out Phaidra, we all knew my time was limited. We all knew I would die, the packs will be fine without me, just promise me you will look out for my brother. Keir will struggle the hardest with this, promise me.” I said as I pulled away from her slightly as she quickly nodded at me.
“I promise and I’m sorry we couldn’t find a way to save you Rhain…” She said as she stared at me with bloodshot eyes. I just smiled weakly at her before I pulled her into another hug then stepped around her and headed towards where my bike was normally parked as sorrow swamped through me.
I walk into the large garage and head towards the key rack to grab the keys to my black cobra speedster and my helmet before walking over to the bike near one of the large garage doors before pressing a button on the wall near the bike causing the door to open. I wait for the door to open all the way before hitting the button again to close the door, quickly getting on my bike and starting it while yanking on my helmet, before driving out of there and off of the pack grounds.
