"Today is not just any day...it is a day the Lord has made"!
So many Sundays and, I still remember the sermon like it was happening right in front of me. Sixteen weeks ago this man from down the road came in and claimed he had the calling. All he did was jump up and down, scream, run around, and yell every bible verse.
Sometimes I wonder where do they find these people. I bet the newspaper headlines read "Local Preacher Needed! Doesn't Matter If You're Short Or Tall. Just Yell His Name An We Pay". I used to hear all the older people say "Oh, that was a wonderful message" next thing you know they don't even remember the preacher's name.
Oh No! Here comes this church girl that swears she is the angel of God's eye.
"Hey, Isaiah!"
"April today is not the day. My momma up there in the choir and, last time you sat by me, I got a whopping. Not by just her but my grandma, daddy, uncles, and my auntie. I almost got whopped by the dog, but that's cause I was messing with the puppies."
"Not my fault you didn't get up and clap with me. You need to be dipped and touched by the Lord. See today, I'm getting baptized, and the preacher said I could sing a solo before I go under."
This is why I don't like this girl, she always doing too much, and this is the fifth time she's been baptized. The only reason I've been so nice to her is that her dad is the principal of the school. Her mom is the chief of police, and her brother is heading into the service.
Talk about a family so black and proud James Brown would say it loud himself.
"ISAIAH, ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME!"
"April, why are you yelling? We are standing right by each other. Besides, all you ever talk about is the church and how well you're doing in school."
The next thing I know, April drew back her fist and starts swinging. If I hadn't run into the church, the whole congregation would be singing Precious Lord. Only because I know she can hit like a linebacker.
Well, here we go again, another service, and the same lady screaming before the preacher even starts. The ushers running to fan her, and close her in. Now, it's time for the word, and of course, he's coming from Luke. Then he jumps to John and finishes with Mark. Yeap time to reach in our pockets and pay for his Cadillac.
Oh Lord, April has the microphone! I wonder what song she's about to mess up this Sunday.
(2 Hours Later)
Finally, we are at home! Grandma always cooks the best Sunday dinners, and everybody loves her pound cakes. I didn't even get a slice, but being her baby has perks. See she always puts away something special for me that nobody knows about.
One time I remember ...."ISAIAH!"
What was that!?
Sounded like thunder, and it sounded like somebody said my name. Maybe, I had too much to eat. I'm starting to hear voices.
Or....maybe...?
Nah, it couldn't be him!
Could it?
Think I need to just get some sleep. The chicken and peas are starting to settle in my belly.
