The year is 1890. Tales of vampires rest innocently in the minds of the people who would tell you of mock horror, of delicious women who take sex with blood, and of monsters birthed by sin. Meanwhile, a woman with chalky skin and delicate fangs sits in a lonely house painting the bleak truth of her days.

(This remains the most difficult short story I have ever written. This story was very experimental. The first chapter came to me suddenly one day and I decided to try a vampire story. I entertained the idea of making it more a romance trilogy and totally scrapping this storyline. Then I decided to end it. I re-wrote the ending at least four times. I am done now. So done.)
