The Off Chance revolves around newly-separated mother Charlene Lowry and her 11-year-old son, Colton. After getting temporarily laid off her job as a high school teacher, the Lowrys' must move to a new town. Charlene is unable to teach for a year so she must begin testing the professional waters while Colton's hard-wrought efforts to not be constantly wedgied by his school chums are for naught when he arrives in a new school. A little quirky and quick-to-act, Colton typically cuts corners and will go out of his way to avoid confrontation, often to his own chagrin. One night in his new house while Charlene goes for a much-needed night out, Colton discovers an unusual apparition residing in the attic. it's the ghost of the home's former owner, Joseph Anthony Ogden, a down-on-his-luck musician/writer who met with an unfortunate end. After an awkward meeting, Colton and Ogden (who he sarcastically nicknames 'Ogi') form an odd friendship, usually out of the sight of other humans unless Ogi's intervention is absolutely necessary. While both Colton and Charlene's tendencies for self-destructive behavior sometimes overpower their judgment, both realize they are still looking to find themselves, even if being family is the only thing they have in common! Just what are the chances a ghost of a person you've never even heard of turns out to be your best, if not only friend?
