Full name: Liiaya Zivuska Diotisalvi
The story follows Lia’s journey through the chaos of war. A poor girl living with her thirteen-year-old brother, Kian, in a remote village within the empire’s "forsaken lands," their fragile existence in a simple wooden hut is constantly threatened by sudden dragon faction attacks. After losing her mother in a raid and her father enlisting in the military, with no news of him since sixteen-year-old Lia shoulders the crushing burden of survival in harsh times.
As an immigrant, her life has never been easy. She and her brother endure scornful glares and vicious rumors, for imperial citizens see immigrants as "wild wolves" carrying the latent curse of Vox in their blood (explained further in Vol. 2).
When their home is destroyed, Lia enlists in the imperial army in place of Kian. Despite her lowly status, she strives relentlessly in the brutal barracks, rising to become one of its top pharmacists. Yet the merciless military life engulfs her like a storm, dragging her into addiction with sweet, deadly poppy-derived sedatives—a final, desperate escape.
