The Shadow Angel

Prologue

Prologue

Dec 29, 2021

It was cold and dark.

He couldn't make out what was happening to him.

He could sense it.

The darkness.

It was dragging him down.

It was consuming him.

And then he saw light. The light was dim, but it felt... mystical. It felt like a higher force toying with his life, giving him a playful hand of assistance. Whoever - or whatever showed him the light didn't seem to be helping him. It seemed to be enjoying his misery in the darkness and only showed him the light so that at the last moment, it could take it away from him.

He was desperate. But he kept his wits to himself. He knew that this... force didn't bother him being consumed by the darkness anyway, and he wasn't about to give it satisfaction in toying him. He may not have known who he was or where he was, but he sure knew that whatever happened to him, he wasn't going to give up. But he started sinking deeper and deeper. He couldn't make what was going on anymore. The darkness was winning, and his luck was running out. The light seemed to try to reach him, but he turned it away because if he died, he wanted to die with integrity.

"Your arrogance is still there, I see," a voice suddenly whispered in his ears, "Well, brother, I guess you haven't changed all that much."

... Brother?

"Worry not, brother," the voice continued, "This will get a lot more interesting for both of us. Until then, goodbye, Samael."

Sama... el? he asked himself, Samael.

He wasn't sure how or when, but the voice that was whispering to him... it disappeared. He was never able to see it or understand what it was, but he could feel it - whatever it was - vanishing. Disappearing like it was nonexistent in the first place.

The light continued on fighting the darkness away until he was finally able to clearly see and comprehend what was in front of him. He saw two people, a man and a woman. The woman had long and wavy brown hair with beautiful green eyes. He could clearly see that she was a disciplined woman - someone who was caring to people she loved but could also be strict and commanding. And then the man beside her. His hair was almost pitch black as if it was made of a clump of coal, but his eyes were blue and deep.

Who are they? he thought. Maybe they were people sent by the mysterious voice to protect or supervise him. Maybe they were just people walking by, looking at him.

The light wasn't gentle anymore. The light that saved him was caring, yet the light he saw right then was much brighter and hurt his eyes. Samael tried to look away, but he couldn't. He didn't even know what was going on until he suddenly heard someone shouting loudly in joy:

"He's a boy!"

... Wait, what?

Thunder roars.
Andrew could hear the distant beckoning of a force higher than himself. Somehow, all he could feel was eternal darkness, slowly dragging him down. The darkness keeps growing until it had finally consumed him.
But Andrew was able to see a speck of light shining down to him, instructing him through the darkness.
"Times change," a voice whispered, "And so do loyalties. I'll see you again, Samael."
