Asher Crowe doesn't know where he stands in the world. One where power, both physical and political means everything.

To the young Asher Crowe, power means nothing. It reminds him of only violence, loss, and desperation.

His friends are about to embark on their journey to the Capitol, risking their lives for a new start, and to contribute to easing the ever increasing chaos of their world. Now, Asher must decide what his next step is too.

Living in the small village of Lorhaven puts him at the bottom of the totem pole, and life has dealt him a poor hand. It's time for him to solidify his own future. Asher thought he had everything planned out for a peaceful life, but when the Capitol comes knocking, trouble is sure to follow.

With the rug pulled out from under him, will Asher make the right choices, or find himself swallowed up in darkness with the rest of the world?
