During the middle ages of a parallel universe, A dimensional crack appeared in the middle of the island, and monstrous creatures began flooding out of them. As a means of defense, the nations sent their best knights, strategists, and engineers to form a camp on the island, in an attempt to defeat the crack before the invasion could get off the island. The solution proved effective as the island defense forces kept the nations from harm for centuries. To award them with their bravery, the nations dubbed them the Knightly Order of Stratford.

Two hundred years later, the occurrence of the Crack began slowing down in frequency. It completely stopped over 50 years ago from the present. The Stratfords continued to live on the island and train for the Crack, in case they reappear. The Stratfords are now well known throughout the world as the most elite individuals who essentially saved the world. Because of the strong belief in eugenics, the island's hierarchy is divided by the people's blood purity. Max is a resident born and raised on Stratford Island with relatively high blood purity, but he has had enough with the island life and hopes to explore the outside world.
