Mentions of self-harm and suicide
"I'm sorry to tell you but your daughter has a condition that slows her pain response by a minimum of three minutes," Fenya was confused. Why had her and her mother come to this mean looking man who had poked her and hit her. She could see her mother's face pale she had not felt anything when she had fallen but it looked strange, so she cried. Her mum tried to tell her that everything was alright, and Fenya believed her, but her mother had taken her here.
"What does this mean for my daughter, will this affect how she lives?" Fenya looked at her hand her mother was holding it so tight her fingers were pushed on top of each other. Fenya was confused why did her mother look so scared she was fine the doctor had already fixed her bendy leg? The doctor smiled down at Fenya and she moved further into her mother's arms.
"Now mam please your daughter will be fine, this should not cause her any danger she may simply have to be a little more vigilant around sharp objects and high spaces," Fenya's mother seemed to calm down the more this man talked. she did not understand why this man made her mother relax but she was grateful, so she let herself smile.
Fenya had worked it out later why her mother was so relived, she had reason to believe that her life would not change at all, that her daughter was just a little bit slow. Fenya had also learned with time that what the doctor had said was a complete lie. In truth she had never felt any pain at all, and her life was completely different to how her mother had imaged it.
Fenya was eight by the time she had truly registered that fact that she felt no pain it was strange how she would fall and feel nothing, while others would cry and scream. Not feeling pain left her to experiment and by ten years old she had started observing others and stealing knives so that she could cut into her own skin. She had found a sick sort of joy in watching the blood run from the numb cuts. Fenya realised when she was fifteen that she no longer cut from pure curiosity but because she had felt a sort of lacking and lonesome.
At the time Fenya had refused to let herself come to that, so she tried to stop. Stopping had proved a difficult task as the next year she had been tasked with the responsibility of feeding herself. 'just eat when your hungry' they had told her not realising how difficult that is when you do not get hungry. Her mother eventually noticed as she got thinner and thinner that there was a problem and took Fenya to group therapy.
It was not until the day of her seventeenth birthday that Fenya had ever thought about suicide. Her mother decided that it was the perfect present to give her already signed registration papers to a psyche ward in the local hospital. It came to the point where her own mother thought she was crazy and that was a depressing thought for Fenya. She thought that she would rather be dead then be in a torcher hole like that.
She closes her eyes and throws her body over the edge feeling her body fly though the air. Opening her eyes for what the thought was last time as she falls with a gasp as she is engulfed by freezing waters.
Dust filled the sheets of rain that fall over the plains for the first time in the year. The rain waters the thirsty plants nearly at their deaths. Before now they had only been watered with the small amount of water left in the murky stream that ran in the back of town. The stream was almost completely made of mud by this point only still running because of the towns so far from us that even if cars where usable it would still take at least a day to travel to any one of them.
Ade wanted so badly to dance among the water droplets. to try and catch the water on his tongue. To taste the pureness of water that had come straight from the sky instead of from boxes that where delivered to the flat planes each month. Although Ade wanted to fill the desires that the rain had brought, he knew better than to tempt himself as the rain may not come again.
Pulling off his sweat drenched night clothes Ade lets out a large sigh as he pours the water over his back and cleans off his sandy skin. Ade steps back into a light suit and heads for a dreary day. The rain had already stopped just as he had expected it to, and the usual heat was at full force once again.
As Ade stepped into the office, he could see many people felt disappointed by the small shower that had ended to soon and only left them with even muggier weather. Many people were saddened by the weather but the only man who to everyone else looks to be the only one not down in the dumps shows Ade his true sadness. The cheery fat man hides tears in his smile as his entire world crumbles to the floors in destiny's great halls.
Oh, what a cruel fate for such young heart to fall victim to a beast such as cancer. His soul saddens Ade, his story leaving him in rubble. Oh, how he wished he could change the fate for this man and his daughter. Ade rests a hand on his heart for the child as the floor begins to shake. He feels himself sink. Sink deeply into the cold waters that he and everyone had prayed months for.
