Believing she’s being sent off for an arranged marriage, Verianna concocts an absurdly convoluted plan to escape her perceived fate—by eloping with a complete stranger. But in a twist of irony, her chosen “savior” is none other than Marquis Lamorak, the villain of the novel she’s trapped in, notorious for his ruthlessness and infamous for beheading the heroine at the story's start.

As Verianna’s desperate and ridiculous schemes unfold, she must navigate the dangerous world of high-stakes politics, avoid raising suspicion about her true identity, and somehow survive the wrath of the fearsome man she’s unwittingly targeted.
