Those who could not and were still lucky enough to survive holed up in the few somewhat habitable areas left on the planet.

One day however, salvation came from the stars, as the Asmodei descended upon the ruined earth, bearing promises of a new world for mankind to thrive on.
A fresh start, to make up for the follies of the past.

But nothing works out quite as advertised, does it?
