Hello everyone!
This is the first chapter of a high school sports football series I've been playing around with for the past year and a half - Touchdown Dance! It's designed to be a VERY lengthy, short chapter comic telling the tale of the Canyon Ridge High School Dragons as they look to be the best high school football team in the country.
I have only had one chapter drawn/colored for this, although I have multiple arcs written out and over 15 chapters currently written. My initial hope with this was to find a place willing to help subsidize the cost toward making this comic and publish it weekly. At this point, this has not happened, although I'm still open-minded to the possibility.
My goal with this comic is to create a more western iteration of the sports manga genre. Stories like Haikyuu, Slam Dunk, and Blue Lock are incredibly popular internationally - why is there no American version of it? That was my goal in putting this together - to tell a story that actually focuses on the sport in question and the characters' personal journeys.
I come from a background of writing about football, so I want to delve into schemes within this story. I love when teams in sports manga create strategies and counters to succeed on the field. I've already created enemy "teams" that deploy the no-huddle offense, the triple option, and zone blitzing, among other schemes.
Additionally, I'm hoping to showcase strong representation in this story - including women who play football, LGBTQ+ character development, and characters from all types of backgrounds and nationalities. This is crucial for me and will always be a keystone to this story.
