A new era of peace had begun. The role of the superhumans known as Tyists loomed at a transition point. Mortals across the empire and the other four lands desired them, feared them, worshiped them, exploited them.
Zaine was a self-taught Tyist who had no plans to leave the obscurity of her village at the periphery of the empire. But before she could settle into marriage, someone of her kind stumbled into her life and persuaded her to go on a brief trip. Soon, she was thrust into the midst of influential Tyists who vied to become healers, conquerors, protectors, saviors. She became a linchpin mediating the connivance of both allies and enemies, all the while seeking to regain what she had forsaken in order to become a Tyist.
