The Devil has died today.
He was cruel, ruthless, evil and unmistakably hated by all. Well, all but one, an angel, who was quiet but kind, pure and open-hearted. She saw beneath the dirt, through the darkness.
The Devil was all those awful things, but he was also loving, a protector of those he loved, a mourner of those he lost. All those years had broken his heart and destroyed his soul, but in the angel’s eyes he was but a suffering being that needed affection and care. Most of all what people did not understand was that he’d only hurt those who deserved it. Innocent souls would always be under his protection, never under his punishment.
The Devil has died today and an angel is crying for him.
Rumbling thunder and heavy rain deafened her heartbreaking cries, no one would ever hear her. Kneeling on the ground filled with grass, the dirt soaking through her white dress, and looking up at the sky she let the tears fall, as if there was no tomorrow. The world as she knew was coming to an end, a bitter and sad end, and she was the only one grieving over it.
Unable to kneel any longer she lied on the muddy ground, dirtying herself in the process, begging for his return, cursing his death and blaming the world for her pain.
The crying angel only wanted things to be as they once were.
For him to be alive.
For him to be there with her and hold her.
For him to protect her of everything evil and unjust.
She just wanted him.
Nothing else but him.
With all her heart and body.
But that is not the way of the world. The world is awfully unfair and no matter how much she prayed for him, the angel knew she’d never gaze upon his face again or touch his lips once more. He was dead and she was not. The world is unfair but God is even more so.
The Devil wasn’t evil and God isn’t good, it was never as simple as that. So much so that an angel who is supposed to love God hates him and instead loves the Devil she’s supposed to hate. Maybe that’s why her wings aren’t as white as they used to be; maybe her unnatural feelings are the reason they are now dark, almost completely black. He used to love her wings, would he still love them now? Even after they lost their brightness? Would he still love her now, even if she was no longer an angel?
The Devil has died today and an angel has taken his place.
