Hello! Before you read the story I am about to tell you I wanted to say a few important things about it.
(CONTENT WARNING AT THE BOTTOM! Please read and continue with caution.)
Firstly, this book is fully completed. I have written the entire story, and any late posting is solely because I am still in the process of editing it. However, I decided to share it, even if it’s not fully in its 100% final draft, it’s good enough for now, and I wanted to share what it’s like right now and see if anyone else enjoys what I wrote. I plan on publishing it at some point, and I’d like to see if I have an audience!
This story is very close to my heart, as I have written it about many experiences I myself have. As a young disabled trans man, dealing with a mystery illness right around when my life was supposed to be ‘just beginning’ was terrifying, and honestly continues to be. The life I’ve been living isn’t the one I expected to have when I was younger and imagined who I’d be at my age. But that’s why I figured this story would be so important to write. I know I am not alone, and there are many disabled kids, teens, and young adults who may feel similarly lost and confused in a world like this, and I wanted to tell a story that I believed would make 17-year-old me feel a little less alone. I hope that you can see yourself in the characters as well. I hope the story I’ve told helps someone else to read like it has helped me to write.
That is to be said, not every single thing in this story is written with 100% accurate realism in mind. While a large chunk of the story is based off of my own experiences and life, I took some artistic liberties to tell the story I really wanted to tell: a story where the disabled main character gets a happy ending and doesn’t get magically cured somehow. So if anything is inaccurate to how things in real life work, my apologies.
As I am still technically editing the story, this is just one of the drafts, anyone reading this will then be a part of the journey as to getting this story told, and for that I thank you! I have grown deeply attached to these characters since I started writing in late August of last year, and continue to be even though I have technically completed the main story. I’ve even written a ton of shorts related to the story that, if anyone here wants to read, I will post. However it being a draft does also mean that some things are subject to change or alteration between your reading this now and my eventual publication of the book.
That being said, I hope everyone enjoys the story. If you do, leave a like or a comment, I love to see what people think about the things I’ve made! Thank you all for reading, and please enjoy.
Please however, before reading please be aware of some of the content warnings and potentially triggering topics touched on within this story. I will do my best to have a warning at the start of chapters, but I am incredibly forgetful so I don’t want to risk harming anyone due to that, so please be aware.
WARNINGS FOR: parental neglect, parental abuse, hospitals and other discussions of medical care, internalized ableism, transphobia, homophobia, panic attacks, and disordered eating. (If there are any other topics I should add to this warning please let me know)
I intended to portray the reality of what it is like being a trans teen when you suddenly become disabled, as well as some of the other complex issues that come into play in such a situation. These are all told from my own personal experience, so while it may not be accurate to everyone’s experience, it is to mine and I ask you to please be respectful.
I am very happy to have finally finished writing this story, and to finally be able to share it. I hope you enjoy!
