Just a warning that there is some language in this chapter :/
I stumbled through the dark street, accompanied by only the sound of my shaking breath and the scuffing of my feet upon the cobblestone path. It was pitch black save for the small circle of light emitted by my meek lantern. I didn’t mind though because it would have been too risky to have brought a brighter lantern with me, even the one I had now was dangerous. Yxela was known to be the darkest city in the country, and it was said that bringing even a bit of light within it would get you killed. And of course, with my luck I ended up arriving here in the middle of the night. The only reason decided to brave the darkness was because I couldn’t afford to waste any time. I needed to find a great healer that was rumored to live in Yxela. You see my mom had fallen sick a few months ago but the doctors in my shitty town weren’t able to do anything due to a lack of resources. My mom had told me multiple times that I didn’t need to worry about it because she wasn’t going down without a fight, but I saw the toll her sickness had on her body. She would never admit that she was dying but I knew. My mom was the only person I had in life so there was no way I was going to let her die so easily. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sudden sound of a second pair of footsteps. I stopped in my tracks and immediately blew out my lantern. Darkness quickly overtook my vision as I frantically ran in the direction I was already headed in to hopefully escape whoever was producing the footsteps. That would’ve been too lucky though, and if my night wasn’t going badly enough, I ended up running smack dab into a very solid figure. I closed my eyes fully prepared to hit the ground but for some reason the impact never came. A quiet chuckle along with a slow movement of a hand around my waist made me realize the reason I hadn’t busted my ass was because someone had caught me.
“Who the fuck are you!” I exclaimed in a panic as I quickly jumped out of the arms that were holding me. Well, at least I tried to jump out of the arms restricting me but whoever was holding me had hella strong grip because I didn’t budge.
“Feisty aren’t you little one.” A deep voice rumbled.
I shivered at the voice, not out of fear but because of how incredibly sexy it was. My shock at his fucking sexy voice lasted only about five seconds though as I processed his words. Little one! Who the fuck does this guy think he is treating me like a child? I am a whole 22 years old, and sure I might have been a little short but that doesn’t me he gets to call me little one!
“Who are you calling little one you creep!” I shouted as I desperately tried to escape from the arms holding me.
“Why who else but the little mouse who has fallen into my arms.” The mystery figure responded. Anger bubbled in my stomach and any fear I had was now gone. First the fucker called me little and now a rodent. In my fit of anger I attempted to punch the mystery man holding me but before I could even attempt to do so I found myself being pinned against a rough wall.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you pet, because not only would you lose but you’d also draw more attention to yourself, and you definitely don’t want to do that.” The mystery man breathed along my neck.
I shivered at his closeness before responding.
“How do you know I’d lose huh, you must be pretty full of yourself fucking bastard.” It was at that moment that I finally got a good look at the man holding me and boy was that a bad idea. This man was incredibly beautiful. His skin was whiter than the moon that refused to shine here at night, and his hair was like black silk falling elegantly down to his waist and flowing ever so softly in the wind. But his eyes were the real problem. They were ice blue and it felt as if those eyes could see throughout my very being. Never in my life had I ever seen someone so attractive. His chuckle once again brought me back to my senses.
“While I am quite confident in my own strength it mainly has to do with the fact that you are simply a human were as I am not.” He replied as a matter of fact.
“Oh” was all I managed to mutter out because I was too busy cursing myself for being so stupid. I was in Yxela a whole ass vampire town. How could I have forgotten that very major detail. That meant that this man was a vampire and I had just tried to fight him. Good job me!
“It seems you had forgotten where you were pet, don’t worry though I’ll forgive your terribly rude behavior if you tell me a what a human like you is doing in a place like this.” He practically purred with a smug grin as I began to tremble under the weight of his stare.
“Umm I-I umm” I struggled to find the words to say as I was being hit with a wave of fear now that I had finally grasped the situation I was in.
“I don’t have all night pet; I’d hurry if I were you” mystery man said suddenly causing me to jump a bit. He must have noticed that I flinched because the smug grin on his face grew upon his next statement.
“Where is all that confidence you had earlier at now my sweet little mouse.” I really need to gain better control of my emotions because in a flash all the anger I had felt earlier was back with a vengeance.
“Who the fuck said you could call me a rodent you fucking bastard! How dare you insult me like that. Also let me go and get that shit eating grin off your face before I get rid of it for you!” I screamed only to open my eyes and see that the face of the mystery man had gone blank. Shit. It really wasn’t my day.
“Well, that wasn’t very nice pet, not only did you fail to answer my question you also yelled at me.” The man sneered as he tightened his hold on my wrists.
“Wait no I’m sorry I didn’t mean it um you can call me whatever you want just please don’t kill me, I need to find a healer called Abraxas so he can heal my mother, you see she fell sick, and the stupid doctors couldn’t do anything, so I figured-.” I was silenced by a finger being placed on my lips.
“Well today must be your lucky day pet, for I am the man you’re looking for.” The mystery man responded with a sly look. I stared at the man in shock, man this day just couldn’t get any worse could it.
