The Lost Tribe Prophecy
“Floral, the eggs are hatching!” Topaz flew as fast as her wings could carry her to her friend's residence.
“They are!?” Floral cried, bursting out of her door with her husband, Seawatcher. “Already?”
“Yes! Cliff said they’d be out any minute now! Let's go!” Topaz tugged on Floral’s talons and the trio flew as fast as they could to the Hybrid Hatchery on Sapphire Mountain.
“I can't believe it, Floral,” Seawatcher said, panting. “Our first dragonet.”
“I know!” Floral said happily, pink spots blooming on her wings and body. Topaz rushed in the building from behind her.
“Topaz! They’re hatching!” a MudWing (which Topaz recognized as Beige, the owner of the hatchery) exclaimed quietly. Topaz ignored her and hurried past her toward her bright red and orange egg.
The only reason I knew was because of Cliff’s vision, Topaz thought, as she took her newly-hatched daughter and hid her under her wing, so that Beige couldn’t know that she was a firescales. He already knew that she could read minds and tell the future, he didn’t need to know about her other ability… I’ll call her Peak. If Cliff’s vision is right, she should survive this war...
. . .
It was a year after Peaceflyt was born when his parents announced they were having a family gathering. “You’re going to see you aunts and uncles!” his father announced.
Seawatcher was still a soldier, but after talking with some high-ranking officials, he’d been able to get out of battle for a day. Floral was very elated, because she hadn’t seen him for that long since Peaceflyt was born. She informed Peaceflyt that they were having another dragonet soon, within a few months, so Peaceflyt was pretty excited, having heard his parents’ thoughts about it.
They had the reunion right on the edge of the rainforest instead of in the valley near the mountains, because Peaceflyt had multiple very young NightWing cousins who couldn’t fly yet.
After Peaceflyt’s family members greeted each other, he saw a red and black NightWing out of the corner of his eye. He tried to walk away, but the NightWing (who looked maybe two or three years older than him) jumped right in front of him. Surprised, Peaceflyt jumped back and held back a yelp.
Baring her gleaming teeth, the NightWing poised in an attack position. Someone please help me, Peaceflyt thought, panicking. And as if someone had heard his thoughts, another NightWing, this one black with dark blue underscales, ran over toward the frightening red one. The new NightWing yanked the attacking one’s tail and threw her towards a tree.
“Sorry about that,” the new NightWing said pitifully to him. “That’s Deneb, one of your cousins. You should probably avoid her.” She paused, looking down at him. “I’m Milkyway, one of your aunts. I’ll keep Deneb away from you, dear.”
Milkyway left, grabbing Deneb again and keeping hold of her for the rest of the day. From Milkyway’s side, Deneb kept shooting dirty looks at Peaceflyt whenever Milkyway wasn’t watching.
An hour later, the reunion finally ended. As soon as he got the chance, Peaceflyt threw himself into the safety of the forest. His parents didn’t seem to know about his encounter with Deneb. He was still panicking, wondering if Deneb was out to get him again. Calm down. You’re in the forest. You have venom to protect yourself if you really need to. You have parents that will protect you. It’s okay. You’re never gonna see her again.
