Do you ever feel like you belong? Comfortable with the people you talk to, you communicate with? I, very rarely. The best way to describe this feeling is like an alien wandering this pretty blue planet, having to learn the distinct social cues, and feeling embarrassed when you make the wrong step.
You keep silent, afraid to miscalculate your next step. Shy, timid, reserved. You move slower than everybody else, though you know you’re smart enough.
That cookie, one or two? What do other people’s words mean? You can read between the lines, can’t you? Do you greet the bus driver, will you be judged if you don’t?
Exhausting, overflowing, there come the tears you can’t hold back, even though you wish you could.
Are those you call your friends, really friends, or will they just view you as a clingly pup?
Let go, let me hold you in my embrace for however long you wish. You’re safe, we won’t judge. Be brave, be bold, place that next step. Spread your wings, soar high in the sky, you’ll get there when you’re ready.
Mistakes are only human.
Cuddle the cat, cry on my shoulder. Because we are here.
Indulge, there’s no shame when the dark falls.
You do belong. Because without you, there’s no us.
Now, let’s start this journey.
