Chapter 1: Online Friend
Evan walked through the long, dark hallways of his school. Evan tucked his backpack close to him while he looked around, seeing all the students talking with each other. As he walked more down the hall, he saw his bullies. When Evan was about to walk away from them, they charged at him. Evan quickly ran away into the front yard of the school. They caught up to him and tackled him down onto the grass floor. As Evan looked up, he got kicked in the face. It was around 15 minutes before they left. Evan was on the ground of the grass floor, muddy and bloody. As he got up from the grass floor, he ran to the nearest restroom to clean up his face and hands so that he could return to class.
When school ended, Evan ran into his house, trying to not get noticed by his parents. He jolted to his room and looked in the mirror. All he could see were cuts and bruises on the side of his face. Evan thought of what his bullies had said to him back at school.
“Come back, coward!” One of them screamed inside his head.
“What a petty name you have. Evan. It sounds pathetic.” One of them snapped. Evan shook his head, trying to forget their screams.
As Evan was about to open up his laptop, he heard his mom scream his name from downstairs.
“EVAN! Come down here for dinner! We have your favorite steak and your favorite rice.” Evan heard his mother scream.
“Okay, I will be down in a minute!” Evan yelled back with a sore voice. Evan ran into the bathroom, trying to bandage up his injuries so that his parents couldn't see what had happened.
As he walked down the stairs he saw Sylar and Noah, his older brother and sister. Evan walked towards the table and sat down waiting for the food.
“Evan, are you okay? I see the bandages on you”, Skylar whispered, trying to not be heard by their parents.
“I'm fine, I swear, you don't need to worry about anything..” He responded as fast as he could.
Both Skylar and Noah both looked at him, skeptical of what he had said. When they were about to say something, Mom and Dad came back to the table and placed down the food. They all ate together as a family. Skylar washed all the dishes, while Noah gathered the plates and forks. When both of them were occupied, he hurried upstairs into his room so that no one could bother him. He looked around his room, trying to find his laptop when he saw it on my bed. Quickly, Evan grabbed it, opened it, and launched the game he was playing with his online friend. He snuggled up in his bed and shut off his lights so that he could focus his attention on the laptop. As his cursor went to each tab, he heard a ding from the chat. He glided his cursor over to the chat and saw that Oliver was online. His face lit up when his username appeared on my screen.
DumbotheFrog
Hey, what's up Evan? Are you ready to face the new dungeon? I heard it was super hard.
Evan stared at the screen for a minute before he responded. Oliver was the only real friend Evan had to have in a while. He always feels safe and warm inside whenever he comes on even though he doesn't know what he looks like Oliver is very understanding of him.
FatheroftheFrogsIII
Yea I am. I can't wait to get the loot it drops. I heard it was super OP! Do you mind if we could use VC?
DumbotheFrog
Yeah, sure I don't mind :)
He smiled and went onto the voice chat they would always use whenever they would call.
As he was waiting, he got prepared for the dungeon that they would be facing today. Oliver was so good at this game and has been playing for a year, while Evan only started a few months ago. He can't complain though, because he likes spending time with him and he doesn’t mind Oliver explaining things to him.
“Hey, Evan! Are you ready?” Oliver asked cheerfully. He smiled at the screen.
“Of course, I’m ready, Oliver! Let's go to the dungeon right now. It's W55 on the coordinates.”
We played for hours and hours until it was midnight. He started to get tired but he wouldn't give up for some sleep.
“Hey um, Oliver? I know I shouldn't ask this, but how old are you?”
“Oh, I am 16 going on 17. How about you?” Oliver asked politely.
“I am 16. Oh, and I also have another question for you, if you don’t mind me asking.” He said.
“Of course, I don’t mind Evan. What is it?” Oliver asked calmly.
“Well, where do you live exactly? Like- not your address, just, like, where are you from?” He was sweating, scared of what his response would be.
“Oh, I live in California, what about you?” Oliver asked with a confident tone.
“Oh! Me too, Oliver. I also have another question if you wouldn’t mind me asking?” He was jumping in his seat when he heard what Oliver was saying.
“Yeah, sure I don't mind Evan, what’s up?” Oliver asked.
“Well, I was wondering if you would like to meet up sometime? Just to hang out and such because we have been playing with each other for so long.” He said.
Evan waited impatiently for an answer from him. His hands were sweaty and he was nervous about what he would say. Of course, he would be fine with him saying no because he may be uncomfortable, but he hoped he would say yes.
“You know, that’s a really good idea, Evan. I don't know why we didn't do this earlier but sure! I would love to. I have to sign off for tonight but I'll chat with you about a date we could do. Is that fine with you?” He asked calmly.
“Yes, of course! See you tomorrow Oliver. Goodnight!” He said and waved goodbye.
He set his laptop down on his desk and went off to sleep with a smile on his face.
