The revolution failed, and what remained of the City when the smoke cleared was divided and bought out by the mysterious Rig Casino. To keep the City's people in line, the Rig maintains an army of magicians, rare and dangerous beings with magical abilities, by forcing them to join their ranks.

In the years since the Rig's takeover, Acer has managed to survive in the City by taking on whatever jobs come his way, violent or not-- but when he makes a snap decision to help a young magician escape the Rig, he finds himself in the middle of a new uprising that will determine the City’s fate.
