Calista's Fanfare is a tribute to "The Dragon Tutor" by the lovely Mar Mai. Before I wrote this, Mar kindly gave me her permission, and I am grateful that I got the opportunity to write a piece in honour of one of my favourite webcomics on Tapas!
The fanfare begins quite like the usual fare; however, it quickly transitions to a gentler, more peaceful scene -- the flute represents Calista. The texture of the music becomes thicker and richer as Calista becomes more energetic, but all is silenced when we cut to the sorrowful sight of a distressed Calista, sitting alone in the Palace courtyard, lamenting of her misfortunes and her lack of friendships.
However, there is an initially cautious, but then swift return to the adventurous march of the first theme as Calista sets off on her adventure to the land of the dragons to continue her education under the tutelage of the dragon Zephyr. The work is completed with a final flourish, accompanied by a reference to Calista's theme.
Yes, yes, I know Tapas is a webcomic site, but I thought I'd do something different!
I greatly enjoy drawing, but it's not what I'm best at. My true passion (one of several anyway) lies in writing music! I also love all the hard work that the artists in this lovely community put into their comics and stories. So, I decided that I'd write a series of orchestral works paying homage to my favourite works and their creators! Each piece will also be accompanied by fan-art! Hooray!
Also, please note that since writing large works like these takes a lot of time, updates will be sporadic and unpredictable. However, I will try to upload as often as possible! Thanks!
