Russell Jones was born into a poor family by the sea. His father was a fisherman and his mother was a laundress. The island where Russell lived with his parents was small, but enough to accommodate a small port town and a forest with wild animals. The territory was located in a tropical climate, so it was always warm there. Trees with bananas, pineapples and other exotic fruits grew on the island. It was surrounded by clear blue water, in which many fish swam.
Not only people lived on the island, but also various animals, such as monkeys, parrots, turtles and even dolphins that lived in coastal waters. Russell loved his island and considered it his home. He often went to the beach to play in the sand, swim in the sea or collect shells. He also liked to go into the jungle to observe animals and look for adventures. As a child, he often thought about discovering new lands and treasures that could be hidden on his island.
From an early age, Russell dreamed of adventures in distant countries, which he read about in books in the local library. Most of all, his heart was touched by stories about pirates who staged naval battles and plundered other people's treasures. The boy wanted to be as brave and free as they were.
The hero was taught to read and write by his grandfather, who was a teacher at a small school on the island. His name was Denis. He loved books and knew many interesting stories. Russell's grandfather often told his grandson not only about fictional stories, but also about different countries, cultures, sciences and arts. He also taught him numeracy and gave him books that Russell himself had read in his early youth, thereby encouraging his interest in reading.
Russell Jones was a very curious and diligent student. He quickly learned to read and write, but did not like to attend school, preferring to look for adventures on his head. The boy especially liked to study books about adventure, science fiction, history and geography.
One ill-fated evening, when the guy was only 12 years old, his life changed dramatically. Russell returned home after another trip to the library, where he spent most of his time moonlighting as a librarian's assistant and rereading books. Going to his home, the guy found that his parents were lying on the floor in complete exhaustion.
They looked unusually pale, coughed up blood and complained very quietly of severe chest pain. Russell may have been scared, but he quickly gathered his strength, carried his parents to the bed and ran for help. Unfortunately, when he returned with the doctor, his parents were no longer breathing. The doctor said that they died from a strange disease that he was not familiar with. Their blood froze in their veins, forming a pattern of unfamiliar symbols all over their bodies. Russell's grandfather disappeared the same day.
