Countdown's story sets place in a steampunk/fantasy world called Vellret. Vellret is similar to our world, but also there are kings and queens, castes and the most important there is no religion. The people of the world believe in gods, but they also believe they aren't with their creatures - with the humans - anymore.
The two main characters of the story are Hassel Rondrel and Lalbor 'Zafyr' Kames. They live in Ligeor's town, in the middle of Unceasing Desert. They both came from the lowest caste: the "eadsa" because they both are orphans. Hassel is a petty thief and a very problematic young man, his friend Zafyr is the only reason why isn't he already in a jail.
The story sets wing when Hassel stole something, which cause problems... a lot of problems.
