Technically speaking, I died when I was seventeen.
What should have been a great last day of summer vacation out with my best friends on the boat turned ugly fast when a freak storm came out of nowhere and I was thrown overboard. Had it not been for my damned dress, I could have swam to safety, but no. Every day of my life had to be a fashion show. My dress got caught on the rocks, holding me down until I drowned.
I’d thought that right before I died, I’d at least get to see a montage of my beautiful life. I expected to see visions of all of the great parties, my friends, or my perfect boyfriend, Asher, but again, that was a big fat no. Instead of all of that, all I saw was a hideous sea monster, smiling at me from a distance as water filled my lungs.
When I woke up in an underwater cave in the middle of the ocean, the sea witch made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I could go home to my charmed life and my gorgeous boyfriend. All I had to do was give her two years of my services and then she promised she’d free me from my fate.
It all sounded easy enough at the time, but can the price of a life actually come at too high a cost?
