The phone feels cold, so cold, like it’s piercing through my skin. The same chat has been open for the last fifteen minutes, he’s probably bored by now. The rain pours down the roofs and falls into the puddles on the street in a rhythmic, soothing fashion.
I’m getting sleepy like this.
With a sigh, I remove myself from the wall and enter back to my apartment. The warmth of the place hits me like a daze, lulling me. I crash on the couch and fall asleep.
Blinking drowsily, I adjust the glasses that are perforating my nose bridge.
“Good morning, sleepyhead! Up in the rain again?” Venus grins teasingly, fangs gliding over her lower lip.
“Yeah…” I sit up, tey promptly sit next to me.
“Was something bothering your mind to keep you up so late?” It asks in her usual verbosity, it doesn’t take away teir concerned tone.
“Ares…” The words come out slurred, I just woke up, okay?
Venus raises an eyebrow, inquiring.
“You remember the sirens?”
“Of course I do!” The venom spills down her pretty lips, it saddens me how such a sweet person has to burden such anger. “How wouldn’t I?” It huffs.
I hold it’s hand so she doesn’t spiral further.
“They’ve been talking to Ares.” Although not awake enough to feel emotions, I still feel my skin crawl at the thought.
“They what?!” Her scream makes my head spin. “Sorry…” It puts a hand on what will probably become a migraine.
“I know. What I don’t know is how to warn him.”
“Let’s have some breakfast first, okay?” She gets up and tugs my hand so I do the same.
When we arrive at the kitchen, I sit on the countertop after putting the water to boil on the kettle.
I close my eyes and let the sizzling of the oil soothe my nerves. Venus hands me a plate of scrambled eggs with cheese and cherry tomatoes.
“For how long have they been talking to him?” Venus breaks the silence with a mouth full of eggs.
“A month…? I think?” I say while pouring the water on the coffee maker.
She chokes on her eggs.
“A month!?” It shoots me a perplexed look. “And you let him for that long?”
“I only found out yesterday.” I say while pouring myself a cup of coffee. “Coffee?” I extend a cup at teir direction.
“Thank you.” It responds melodically, grabbing the cup with her soft, manicured hands.
“I know he won't listen, he'll call me jealous.”
“There has to be a way, though?” She muses with the cup pressed against its lips. “You know the guy.” Tey takes a swig and lets out a loud sigh.
“Yeah…” I look to my side, sitting on the counter.
Ares has always been pretty gullible, probably that’s why he became a target.
“Man… What a way to start the morning. Sheesh.” Venus hunches, folding like a beach chair.
“Morning?” Was I really out for that long?
“Yes, morning silly!” It leans to pinch my cheek in a teasing, affectionate way, as she tends to do.
"We need to find a way, Terra." Venus plays with it's coffee, switching it on the cup.
You sigh.
You send Ares a message.
"You don't know what you are getting yourself into".
