I've come to a decision to put SOLIVAGA on ice for the time being. While I love the characters and the universe I've created, I was in too much of a rush when it came to starting to draw the pages and ended up just half-assing the whole thing.
I didn’t do proper planning before I started to draw, thinking I’d have this clear image in my head about the story I wanted to tell but that couldn’t have been further from the truth.
Not only did I end up telling a story that was far from what I wanted because I kept changing it on the go, which led to a whole slew of tonal problems, inconsistent character behavior and a whole bunch of other unimaginable issues that would surface in the future.
While the storytelling and it’s hazardous “I’ll make it up as I go” -nature is already problematic enough, one thing that also bothers me is my inconsistent artwork. It’s taken me so much time to draw what I’ve done so far that every time that I continue where I left off, my style has changed to something different.
Overall, the groundwork I laid for SOLIVAGA was cheap and weak and now the whole building has collapsed because of it. However, I’m too fond of certain pieces of it and I have a lot of things I want to show and tell in the future, which is why I shall start rebuilding. And this time I’m going to do a proper foundation.
With that, SOLIVAGA’s crew shall bid you farewell. For now.
