Charli and Rain laughed and joked as they walked towards Adelah's classroom, their height neck and neck. The two had known each other all their lives; their parents had been friends since high school, so the two grew up comfortable around the other. Makes sense with them taking baths and sleeping together.
As they neared Adelah's classroom, Charli searched for her small friend.
"Hey, isn't that--" Rain began.
Charli darted in the direction he pointed and exclaimed, "Adelah!" She pulled Adelah into her arms and nuzzled her hair. "I missed my cutie so much."
"Hi, Rain," Adelah spoke, seeing him from behind Charli. Rain waved and pulled Charli off her. "Thanks. I take it you're coming, too?"
"You know me so well," Rain smiled.
"Well, yeah. How long have I known you?"
"Hmm, since you met sticky paws?" Rain laughed. Charli lightly punched him in the arm.
"Not nice," she told him. Rain stuck out his tongue, his eyes slipping behind her to a girl. He glided over to her.
"Well, hello there," Rain purred, caressing the dark-brown waves hanging over her shoulder. Her chocolate eyes gazed into his, a single beauty mark twinkling from below her right.
"And, you are?"
Rain showed his signature smile; he was convinced the dimples would capture her. "The name's Rain."
"Oh! I've heard a lot about you." Rain's chest skipped a nervous beat.
"You have?" he stammered out.
"Yeah, Adelah talks about you and Charli all the time."
"Awe, you talk about me?" Charli said, squeezing Adelah once more. Adelah averted her gaze.
"Not that much..."
"Wait, who are you?" Rain asked in confusion. The girl's eyes widened.
"Sorry, I'm Farrah. Hasn't Charli mentioned me?" Shae cleared his throat from beside her. "And, this is Shae," Farrah told Rain, swinging her arm over Shae's shoulder and pulling him to her. Shae gave a weak smile and waved.
"Hi."
Rain nodded his head as everything came together. He never heard of Shae before, but she was the infamous Farrah? She wasn't what Rain imagined, but in fact, more.
"So, he's your boyfriend?" Rain asked, motioning to Shae with a single head nod. Farrah and Shae exchanged a knowing look before bursting out laughing.
"Him? I hope not," Farrah said, wiping away a tear, "I mean, could you imagine? Me dating Shae? That'd never last." Shae nodded in agreement.
"With everything I know about you? Impossible." Shae placed a hand on Farrah's shoulder. "Grow a pair, and maybe. I doubt we'd work, but maybe."
Rain stared at the two as they giggled away. He wasn't catching any of this.
"So, he's not your boyfriend?" Rain asked.
Seeing his confusion, Adelah stepped in and said, "Farrah and Shae have known each other since the third grade. They're like brother and sister."
"Plus, Shae's not the type to like twins, if you know what I mean," Farrah added. Rain raised an eyebrow.
"Twins?"
Shae sighed, "Farrah, stop trying to code everything." He turned to Rain and said, "She means I'm gay. There's no way a relationship with Farrah would have worked out."
The wheels of Rain's mind turned and clicked. He glanced between the two.
"Ah, I see now," Rain muttered to himself. His gaze locked onto Farrah's. "So, that means you're free. Wanna give me a try?" he cooed.
Farrah laughed, "Sorry, but today's not about me. We're finding Shae a man." Shae groaned from beside her.
"I told you I don't want--"
"Shh! I promise this'll get your mind off him," Farrah said. Shae dropped the matter. He knew he couldn't win against Farrah, not when it meant leering at hot boys all day.
"Whatever."
"Okay, today's Shae's day, but tomorrow, I'll make you mine," Rain insisted, caressing the spot above Farrah's wrist. She smiled and pulled away.
"Let's go to the courtyard for now. Maybe we can find someone on campus you'll see every day."
Farrah pulled Shae out the doors with everyone in tow. Rain walked beside Charli, who refused to let go of Adelah's arm, not that Adelah minded. Farrah scoped out a good vantage point.
Not too far away from the doors sat a brick wall, providing a great view of the school doors and courtyard. They could see everyone who came and left school. Farrah dropped her bag against the wall and hopped up. Shae followed suit. Adelah looked up to the high ledge. Her head stood just an inch taller.
From beside her, Charli noticed Adelah's uneasiness. Her cheeks flared. You're so tiny it's adorable. Charli's slender fingers gripped Adelah's waist.
As Adelah glanced in shock at Charli, her chest somersaulted, feeling Charli lift her up and prop her on the wall next to Shae.
"Thank you," Adelah told her. You're always there for me when I need you.
Charli lit up at Adelah's shyness, another side she adored so much. "How about a kiss as my reward?"
"A--A kiss?" Adelah stammered. Charli tapped her cheek, waiting. Adelah clenched her hands into fists, getting up the courage. This is so embarrassing. Adelah pecked Charli's cheek as fast as she could, the tips of her ears burning.
Charli giggled as she lifted herself up on the wall next to Adelah, beaming brighter than the Sun. Her racing heart refused to slow. Rain nudged Charli's knee in congrats before going to sit next to Farrah.
"Mind if I sit here?" he asked her. Farrah shrugged, keeping an eye on the boys playing football. She wanted to drool as their shirts rode up, as the boys wiped their mouths with the bottom; the boys' quick movements forced their shirts to stick close to them, revealing each and every muscle.
Take it off! Farrah pleaded. Shae followed her lusty gaze and swallowed. He froze, watching one in particular.
A tall boy with shaggy, black hair ran with all his might. He leapt up, the ball flying into his waiting hands. The boys around him screamed in victory.
As Charli and Adelah talked to themselves about dinner, Rain noticed where Farrah's attention lay.
I can do that, he grumbled. Rain followed the ball as it flew through the air and into someone's hands. Wait, is that--
Rain hopped off the wall and strolled over to the cheering boys.
