Historical Note: The form of text written on Bafrib's parchment is called "Hieratic", which is a form of cursive Egyptian. It allowed scribes like Bafrib the ability to rapidly and fluidly write longer blocks of text than traditional hieroglyphics. Hieratic was later replaced with Demotic during the Ptolemaic dynasty.
Sunpiercer takes place in Ancient Egypt, in the city of Waset (known today as Thebes). Set in the very beginning of Tutankhamen's reign as Pharaoh, Sunpiercer follows the crew of a fishing barge named "Sunpiercer". The fishermen of the barge are simple people, closely associated to a small Cult of Sobek just outside the city gates, but are drawn into political intrigue - and what will become a battle for their lives, as they are tasked to secretly retrieve an “artifact of the Gods” from a dangerous councilor of Tutankhamun’s father, the shamed Akhenaten. Unfortunately for our crew, they have very little idea of what exactly they’ve gotten themselves into.
